Best option near Granbury (or on the way from Dallas)?

Nobody else I'm playing is very good. Just looking for something pleasant enough for hanging out and having a few beers. Preferably something where people won't lose a ton of golf balls.

Coming from Dallas so near Granbury or west of town but on the way.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure we pass right by that one on our way to the lake house so that might be perfect.

Any recommendations between the two courses?

My parents live on Whitestone on 377 in Benbrook. I played it several years ago and enjoyed it. No recent experience though.

Whichever one you can get on. Both are good. I think the east course (links style) is easier.

I tend to favor the Lakes course in Glen Rose, but for the past few years, the Links has been in better shape.

Unless they've recently REALLY improved the Hills Course, the River is definitely the better of the two courses at Pecan Valley. The Hills seems to always be short on the basics - like grass on the fairways.

He wanted an easy course that his partners wouldn't lose a lot of balls.

Links is easier IMO...a lot of room off the tee on most holes.

We are playing on Friday at the links course at Squaw Valley. I've heard some mixed reviews on conditions but the people I'm playing with are unlikely to care much. And with the heat like it is, I don't think it's unlikely that we bail after nine.

I played it 2 weeks ago and it had recently been punched but good other than that. I think it should be fine by now.

West of DFW you can't beat Squaw Creek in willow park. Country club level greens, grass range, huge short game area, tricky layout, and many different tees with the tips being 7000+

We joined a club in town and I still go out to Squaw sometimes for a change of pace.

It's farther out but I think SugarTree is head and shoulders above Squaw

FWIW we played the links course at Squaw Valley and it was very fun and in pretty good shape. I'd definitely play it again.

Great timing on this thread. My buddy and I are passing through that area for a hunting trip in a couple weeks and were looking for a place to play on the way. Think we've narrowed it down to Sugar Tree, Squaw Creek, and Oeste Ranch. Going to play Live Oak in Abilene while we're out that way as well.

Just FYI, if you're into such things while playing, Squaw Creek doesn't sell alcohol and is BYOB.

Just to update we ended up playing Oeste Ranch in Willow Park and Live Oak in Abilene. Oeste was a really cool vibe and felt super laid back. Was in pretty good shape as well. Live Oak really blew me away though. Immaculate greens and fairways and tons of elevation changes. One of my favorite courses I've played.
