Will he ever get back in the winners circle?
It seems like he needs a mental break or coach.

He's cashed $2.7mil so far this year, and it feels like he's never ever been in contention - which he hasn't -zero top 10's.
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

Didn't he have wrist surgery back in the winter? Not trying to provide an excuse for him but he did have surgery if I recall correctly.

At any rate, he was a better player at age 16 than he is now

IMO, no, he's too fat and happy. He has more money in the bank than he or his kids will ever spend so there is no fire left. But, knocking it around to the tune of $2.7 mil per year is a heck of a gig.

Yeah with that kind of cash…maybe the motivation is not there except maybe for the PGA championship to complete the slam.

Two problems:

1. Makes unnecessary mental mistakes.
2. Putting has gone to crap.

In the past his putting and crazy good short game would save him from the mental mistakes. Now, not so much.

It's not going to happen, but it's felt for a couple of years that it's time for a new voice when it comes to his swing coach. That's nothing against McCormick, but something isn't clicking. These exaggerated pre shot moves are hard to watch.

He and jt should be in their primes which makes one appreciate what rory continues to do.

Rory is an outlier. Most guys have runs of success for a few years then tail off. Speith just happened to have his in his early 20s. He also putted at a phenomenal rate that wasn't sustainable over his career.

Seems like when these guys start having kids their golf game goes in the tank except for a few.

This. Most multiple major winners have a moment in their career. That's why there's only 10-ish guys who do more than that.

Imo Spieth actually cashed in greatly. Nobody would have predicted the rise of Koepka, and we all knew Rory would stay around the top and even Jordan knew as a junior that Scottie was going to be elite. He got his at a very convenient moment. There's still time left for him to snag another one, though I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen again.

Golf's hard. Elite golf is even harder. I'd be willing to bet Jordan works harder at golf than anyone posting on this thread works at their job. Despite that, guys sometimes just lose it. Seems to be what's happened here. I'm guessing he'll put it together for a week to two and win on tour again. But doubt he'll ever be one of the top dogs again.

I'd say JT has met expectations. I just don't see him as someone with the physical tools to be a world beater. But 33 years old, 16 wins and 2 majors is a damn good career to this point. And outside of a 1-2 year stretch with some minor injuries, he's never fallen to the depths Spieth has.
I don't know that Spieth should've ever been projected as a Rory type either, but the start was so hot it was hard to avoid.

3 majors, and one away (the perceived easiest) from the career slam.

He started chasing another 10 yards off the tee. Changed his swing.

Maybe he needs TGL? Some of those guys found their game back this year (Homa, Sahith, Tom Kim). He needs a change, this would be that.

I was referring to JT on the 2

And Spieth has had a great career, I just don't think anybody thought in 2015 he'd spend extended periods of time outside of the top 50 in the world in his late 20's and early 30's.

Spieth chased distance, made too many changes, and lost the one tee-to-green advantage he had when he was great, consistency.

And I think we're still in an era of golf that remembers Tiger and he set such an unrealistic expectation. Most of the elite players aren't going to be winning majors for 10+ years. They'll have a big run for a few and then drop off.

Nicklaus seemed to figure it out. And he had 5 kids during his prime.

Far from it. But his golf game didn't drop after having kids. I was just providing an example of that.

I get it… but Jack is basically the exception to every other pro golfer in history.

Is it possible to be a family man/father and still be at the top of the game? Sure… but I feel like most have to adjust to the different priorities and time demands associated with having kids.

I agree. I also think it's very hard to continue long-time desire to win when today's financial rewards are so significant.

Nicklaus was big on hauling his family around with him everywhere. Now the fitness and practice demands of today's game have changed, but I do think that put Jack in a place where he could maximize his dedication to both his family and his game
