I was gaming some cheap wedges from amazon for a while and found a couple of SM10s at a great price and snagged them. I seem to hit it well at the range but now I'm worried that I'm not good enough for them. I didn't think wedges mattered too much but my friend's callaway game improvement iron could be better for me? I'm a 30hcp so yeah, I suck.

I'd stick with the vokeys. Sounds like you have to learn how to hit any club well, no offense. Why not do that with a better club?

wedges matter more than you think. the grind and bounce determine where and when you play certain models.

I have an SM10 54 and SM11 58. One is for thick rough and one is for bare fairways and close chip shots. One is for light fluffy dry sand, one is for when it's been raining and the sand is packed.

If I tried to switch them (and I have on accident) it ends up badly for me.

Because a more forgiving club designed to be more tolerant of bad technique makes a hard game much more fun for players with high handicaps.

IMO there is not as much to be gained by GI wedges. GI mainly means perimeter weighting and higher launch. Well, the Vokey is going to launch high and a wedge offers a pretty large face where performance off of it is not going to drastically fall off like it will with a mid or long iron. And on the flip, I do think the Vokeys offer more feel that can help you improve your wedge play

My vokeys feel so good when I hit it well. I'm not getting much distance with my swing speed and compression anyways. It seems like for short shots (< 100yds) a off-center shot would not be too punishing. A truly bad shot, no club can save.
