Again, excellent thread.

Any food and beverage places stood out that you'd recommend? I'm familiar with a few, but appreciate any first hand/current recommendations.

Good convo on recent episode of The Golfers Journal pod with Pinehurst President.

Listened to this today. Planning for Pinehurst next year. Marked down the Italian restaurant he suggested.

I believe 9 was a Jack Nicklaus course they bought

I've only played Pineneedles and Tobacco Road on this list. They're so different it's hard to rank, but I'd go Pineneedles ahead.

You will love Mid Pines. The greens are as close to #2 as you can get.

Yeah 9 is nickalas, didn't care for it

Think the greens will be better on 4 by september? We are doing 2,4,8,10 and the cradle.

They are supposed to open back up in August

I'm guessing they will just re-sod them... no idea on quality/speed

Headed up there Tuesday, we switched from No4 to Southern Pines.

Did you drink and dine on campus? We got a meal plan so wanted to know if any were better than others

We did dinner one night at main building. It was ok

Room service burgers were more enjoyable for me

One night we had a chef come to our villa and cook there for us. It was pretty good

1895 grille is fantastic, everything else is mediocre at best

Penthouse Brewing food is good and there is a burger place in the village that's outstanding too

As another stated 1895 Grille was our favorite. I also thought the BBQ at Pinehurst Brewing was pretty good for North Carolina. Carolina Room dinner was ok, but the vibe is more formal. Plus, you eat breakfast there every morning. I had some tacos at The Duece after our round on 2 and they were fine.

If I were going with just guys I would book all my meal plan reservations at 1895 and Pinehurst Brewing. We did not eat at The Tavern or Vilaggio Ristorante. PL8TE was not open when we went.

Was there last June. #10 is my new favorite!

Good course. I love all who have posted on this and have been. Play Traditions or Aggie altogether. It'd be a blast and get some good Beer, BBQ, and Burgers afterwards

Wife has some friends coming into town next weekend and told me I should make myself scarce. So I decided a little impromptu drive down to Pinehurst area was in order. Its only a 5 hour drive from Maryland so not too bad.

Called this morning and able to get on for 36 at Southern Pines and Mid Pines on Saturday and then going to play Tobacco Sunday morning before driving back.

Not sure if I'll get on the road early enough for any Friday afternoon action, but TBD. Either way I'm excited since its been a brutal winter here.

Enjoy it! I'm so ready to go back. (Even miss the pizza at Benny's in Raleigh.)

What a blast. I love a weekend like that to refill my personal tank. Just some solo time to decompress, play golf, drink some beers and eat whatever I wanted.

Drove in Friday morning and played the Cradle Friday afternoon. Then walked 36 at Southern and Mid Pines Saturday. Finished with Tobacco Road Sunday morning before headed back.

Three years ago when we went and played Needles/Southern/Mid, I had Mid Pines personally ranked as my least fav of those three. After a 2nd loop around it now its been bumped up to my fav. Maybe it was just the vibes this weekend but it was special. There was a member event most of the day on Saturday, so they werent really taking tee times but he sent me out near the end of it. I played behind it for about 7 holes, but then it finished and I played the last 10 holes without seeing another person on the course. With the sun getting low and casting big shadows through the pines, it was just a really memorable back 9.

Tobacco was of course as wild as I thought it would be. I get why plenty of people say they hate it, but I loved it. As any good art does, it certainly evokes a feeling.

Also: to a previous point I do think the Cradle is a bit overrated. The entire scene is great around the Clubhouse at Pinehurst and people are all caught up having a good time, but the course itself isnt anything special I dont think. Off the top of my head of ones I've played its certainly behind the Preserve, The Sandbox, Palm Beach Par 3, Short Course at Mountain Shadows.
