Are they any public courses that are cheap and worth driving to from the heights area? It seems impossible to get a good tee time at hermann or memorial if you don't book 14 days in advance. Trying to get a tee time for tmrw (3/8).

What do you consider cheap? Typical cheap public golf doesnt exist anymore in Houston.

Your only other option is Gus Wortham.

If youre up for a 30+ minute drive, Gleannloch Pines and Cypresswood Cypress courses are under $100 but are pretty meh. A few courses in Pearland but are also meh.

I played Cypresswood Tradition yesterday. Unfortunately it's not in very good condition right now.

Still, it's a great layout and there are a lot of fun shots out there.

Gus is awesome. If you're looking for cheap muni golf, Jersey Village is a great option to try out. They've been putting some work in for improvement out there plus a brand new clubhouse.

Like others have said Gus Wortham is the best muni deal in town. There is a reason it hosts the Houston Am.

It's been a year or two since I tried but Gus was just as hard to get into as memorial

Played Battleground in October and it was mostly in good shape, although half the tee boxes were like concrete trying to get the tee in

Pasadena Municipal off BW8 wasn't terrible, but that was back in July.

Highland Pines - more expensive but actually worth it all the time

Eagle Pointe - most of the time

Cypresswood Traditions - most of the time

Tour 18 - sometimes

Dont pay for blackhorse - i am shocked how many folks are willing to pay for that.

Yeah my buddy is the former mayor of JV and he dragged me out a few mi the back. I was very impressed at the changes.

It's worth it. Clubhouse and food are good

Y'all are saying Jersey Village but do you mean Jersey Meadow? If not, where is the Jersey Village muni?

Yes I believe he meant Jersey Meadow. As did I.

They have come a long way over the last year or so, especially with maintaining the greens. One of the marshalls told me they hired a guy that used to work over at the golf clubs of houston, so maybe thats part of it. I play there once every two weeks or so, and the tee boxes are still the same. They need to address it.

This is a good run-down of these courses. Cypresswood Cypress course is fine (usually $15-$20 less than Tradition). It can be hit or miss, but it's a decent option.

Last time I played it a couple greens just reeked from all the dead fish floating in the pond next to them. This was about 2 weeks after the snow storm.

That was wild. The same thing happened during the freeze several years ago. Happy to report, at least as of this last Saturday, the stench is gone. Now you get to enjoy the fresh cool breeze of chemical plant fumes only

Were the tee boxes and some parts of the greens still St Augustine? Man I haven't played out there since I was a kid.

Had to give up golf several years ago for health reasons, but always enjoyed Timber Creek in Friendswood and Moody Gardens in Galveston. No idea on their condition today.

I played Greatwood two weeks ago. The clubhouse and bar is still **** but the course was far better than when I played it back maybe 5 years ago.

Maybe a bit far, but High Meadow Ranch is a good course. Golf Club of Houston on a Hot deal through GolfNow. I would also play Highlands out on 99. It was worth the price!
