Nice swing from the little lady!
The day I played there, the pin was way right on that par 3. I chickened out and pulled my 7 iron and ended up on the top shelf. I just barely trickled my putt over the ridge and ball went in the bunker. That's a first for me… making the walk of shame back to the cart to grab a sandwedge after hitting the green in reg… Yeesh. In hindsight, I probably should have chipped it, because the greens were actually pretty soft. But, there was no way I was going to figure that out on the 1st go-round.
I played a mix of tees, tips on the downhill holes and 1 ups (Maroon) on the flat or uphill holes. I agree, it's a tough course, and I spent plenty of time in the desert.
#7 is a downhill hole and when I looked down at the plate and it said 544 (I think?). The tee shot went forever so I had a wedge in. When I drained the putt for 3, I was pumped about my eagle! I went to write the score down and NOPE, not an eagle as it was a par 4. It was still a good 3 nonetheless, hah!
#13 on the back is a SEVERELY downhill par 3. I had joined up with a guy so I played the maroon tees on this one. 151 yds… Cliff short, right, and long. Awesome looking hole. I guessed it was around 30 yards downhill, so I hit what is usually a 125ish yard pitching wedge. I hit it well and was admiring it as it flew long into the desert and nearly went down a cliff. It probably flew close to 170. For a Houstonian, it's wild to think that hole was playing more like 45 yards shorter. Amazing.
It's definitely a course that would get more playable the more familiar with it you are. Some of it is so severe that it's hard to know what's really going on. That being said, I'd recommend anyone to go play it for the experience alone.
