Last group in the final round took five and a half hours to play 18 holes! That's unwatchable. Wonder how CBS felt about that. I realize the product they aired was probably recorded and edited, but wow.

It is outrageous and it would be so easy to fix if they would just commit to having an official walking with each group. They could not only keep time, but also be there immediately to rule on drops, OB etc.

Anyone who says things along the lines "these guys are playing for a lot of money... I'd take my time too!" is insane. You could stand there and analyze a shot a million different ways, wait out the wind, and do whatever it takes to give yourself the best chance of hitting the perfect shot. But these are the best players in the world and part of high level sports is making critical decisions under pressure. It would be like taking away the play clock from Pat Mahomes and let him read the defense until he's perfectly ready.

Fines don't matter. They'll happily pay $10,000 if it means securing a win, their tour card, and huge purses. Slap stroke penalties on them and it could drop someone a couple spots on the leaderboard or get them booted from the elevated events etc. That they would take seriously.

when I turned the broadcast on, the last group was standing on the tee box of #3 which is a par 3. It was playing around 135 but the wind was tricky. well they stood there for over 10 minutes because the group ahead had sprayed balls all over the place and were on a safari in the weeds looking for balls. I don't know if they fell out of position the rest of the front 9 but the initial back-up was because of the group in front of them.

They actually finished within the broadcast window which is amazing and sad at the same time.

People have been complaining about slow play for years and the PGAT does nothing about it. It's something that is easily enforced but the tour nor the players care about it.

Professional golf is a much better product in 2somes. The pace is so much better and that is the usual approach after the cut. The issue right now is that the days are too short. This is also one area where I think LIV's format is a miss since they are 3somes and 5 hour rounds all the time

1. Let caddies use lasers and GPS devices.

2. Have warnings and penalties carry over from round to round and tourney to tourney. Like cards in a soccer tournament. There are certain repeat offenders.

3. The problem with a shot clock is that there are so many variables. How do you change the allowed time for someone with a 50 foot putt vs a 6 foot putt? Or when it's gusty and rainy vs still? I think you could figure this out. Maybe have categories of shots that have different shot clock lengths. Would be a little complicated but I bet they can figure it out.

Got a good laugh. Thanks for that.

My group of four was behind another group that had no idea what they were doing this past weekend. Should have been teeing off from the white tee box tbh but nope, they were going for gold. Felt like I was watching the three stooges. Lasted all of about 3 holes before we politely asked to play through. Its one thing if you aren't very good and trying to learn the game of golf on the fly. Its a whole other thing when its taking you 6-7 shots to get it on a par 3 green.

I worked at a Golf Course for 5 years, my fave was the guys who hit the190yd wiper slice off the tee on a par 5 then patiently waited for the green to clear some 250-300 yards ahead of them before they would hit.

If anyone in a group ahead of you uses the term "golfing" , or, putts with their index finger pointing straight down the shaft of their putter, or, wears a glove while putting prepare for a 5+ hour round because those guys don't let people play through

There are really no compelling players or venues on the PGAT anymore. Every time I flip through and watch there is some golf automaton leading a tourney with -20. Pebble Beach is one of the few courses that has that cachet as a venue. I also liked the ACC for the Dell match play.

Stripe the damn course with green paint... small dots or something that the players can see, but TV doesn't really pick up.

Mark the yardage. Take the elephant in the room that every one thinks is this big dang secret and give them the damn yardage!!!!

Par 3's should be posted. 192 yards 17 inches to the pin from the center of the tee markers!

They spend at least a minute working on yardages... put a gps on the caddy, any 1 of a dozen ideas.

Take 1 minute out of 30 shots each, and your speeding up the round of golf!!!!!

Has the use of range finders at the PGA the last 4 years actually helped their pace of play? I haven't seen any data on their average round time versus a standard tour round. My gut says it's pretty much the same.
