Do most of you on this forum do your own grips or take them somewhere to have them done? I know I will need some new grips soon and been thinking about doing them on my own. Not sure how much of a hassle this is.

For me, it's a hassle to take it somewhere to get it done. I worked at a golf store in HS and changed thousands of grips.

So I do mine. At home.

If you have access to an air compressor or a tire inflator, it's pretty easy. It's not worth the hassle to me without using that stuff, though.

I have an air compressor but do mine the traditional way. I have done a million though, so I can do a full set in 30 minutes. Not enough time savings to abandon the way 100% of tour vans do it.

I used to drop them off at the store and have them do it once a year but now have a small work bench and padded vice grips. Bought some tape and solvent online and learned to do it myself. It's kinda therapeutic to change them out yourself.

Do them myself. Currently using star grips. Can be installed with air compressor

Thanks for the comments. Don't have an air compressor, but still going to give it a shot myself.
Do y'all usually go with the same grips or go testgrip some at local golf stores and then buy on line?

I don't have a vice, or a work bench, or the tools required. So I pay the couple bucks they charge per grip and let the store do it.

I can do mine myself but generally take them to my local golf shop. My shop pays for used balls and I always have a big bag I take to him of balls that I've worn out or found. So I always have some kind of credit on his books that pays for some or most of the cost. They almost always get it done while I'm standing there.

Grips4less sells sets with 14 grips, tape strips and solvent plus a rubber vice thing that protects your shafts. With my vice, it takes about an hour for me. Without it was about 1.5. Kinda fun.

I have an air compressor though. May try that approach.

I swap out about every 9 months. Like having new clubs for 100 bucks. Tried over-sized this last time. Cool feel that I think helps.

It's not worth taking them to a golf shop and having them do it for you.

You can easily do it yourself.

All you need is a box cutter, double sided tape and lighter fluid.

Depending on you grip, make sure they are aligned.

Once you catch your stride, you can do a full set in no time.

Love the feel of brand new grips.

Bezos sells a kit with the tape, solvent, hook blade and a thing for the vice. It has instructions too. Really simple and Jeff will bring it right to your house.

I have never used my compressor. Now I am going to look into it and see what I am not doing.

No hassle and very easy to do yourself. Having a good tape stripping tool helps a lot if you're removing really old grips. Grip solvent is reusable; get a metal tray to catch it and pour it back into the bottle when you're done. I use one of these as a catch pan. https://www.lowes.com/pd/ACHLA-Designs/5004703813

This is a great point. The kits all come with spray bottle solvent. Pouring into the grip (block the little hole) and then dump over the tape/shaft (with the tray underneath) and then back in the bottle. I have like 2-3 full bottles but the kits are just cheaper.

I googled the air compressor method though so now going to get the nozzle adapter and try it!
