Headed out to Big Bend Country over the Holidays and am looking into playing this course.

Does anybody know anything about it? It looks tough and a ball eater.

1. If you are willing to take 10 steps into the desert, you will find more prov1s with the Lajitas logo than you can carry.

2. There are a farkload of snakes.

On the course itself: It was immaculate when I played. Very very difficult greens when they put the pins in the rude positions. There's a huge premium on hitting fairways and playing safe. If you ever think "should I go for it?" just don't.

It was super fun, and definitely one of those courses that would be more fun to play the second time because you know where the shots are.

A really, really fun course to play. Fairways are pretty wide and forgiving. Greens are very tricky but fun to navigate.

Bar is very good. Restaurant is pretty good.

There is a hole on the front 9, #5 or #6 I think, that has a little stream in front of it. The water in the stream comes from a hot spring back left of the green. So if you hit a ball in the stream don't be surprised when you reach in to get the ball and the water is warm to mildly hot.

There is a par 3 on the back where the tee box is about 75' above the green. I have not yet figured out what to hit on that hole. And there is not much room short or long or right for poor shots. Let me know how to play that hole when you get back.

If you can putt, you'll shoot 100. If you can't, you'll shoot 120.

Agree its wide open. Grass is paspalum and a lot different from the bermuda grass that's in the majority of Texas. The ball sits up nicely. Every time I've been the greens were super slow but they can't cut them too short in summer or else they'll burn. No idea how they'll be now in the fall/winter. Take your camera because its like nothing else in the state.

And you will also see a good bit of wildlife. We actually saw a roadrunner chasing a coyote across a fairway.

And I promise it was NOT from drinking too much tequila!

TexAgs- Thanks for the input. We're looking forward to it. We decided to stay at the Resort, so we're going to be there for a few days.

It's a 6-1/2 hour drive (no stops) from San Antonio.

When we say 'day trip', don't we typically mean drive there, play, drive home? That would be a pretty long day!

If you do it as a day trip you'll be the 2nd Texags poster to do it.

I'm sure someone will find it but as a Fort Stockton native I wouldn't have done it even from there.

Not sure I'll make that trip as my starting point would be 2.5 hours east of San Antonio!

It's just hard to fathom that someone would drive all the way out there (even from SA) for one round of golf and come back home on the same day.

They did. And the Aggie greenskeeper saw their post ahead if time and had a comped round waiting for them when they got there.

Hence the TexAgs lore.
