Wife and I are wanting to get our kids sets of clubs for Christmas. My two oldest (11,9) are girls, and our youngest (5) is a boy. My girls had US Kids sets, but have outgrown them. My little guy is in line for his first set of clubs. My 9 year old is a lefty. Anyone have recommendations for anything outside of US Kids? Heights are 56", 52", and 43". I've seen the TGW clubs online but have no experience with them - are they commensurate with US Kids? Callaway and Ping also have Junior sets that I've found, but the price point jumps up pretty significantly. Any feedback is appreciated!

Grandson (7yr old) started with a set of "Shorties". Has moved up to some Taylor Made Jr's. Set was around $500. Significant bigger & heavier club heads. Took a little adjustment.

My son has loved the cobra junior set as a transition from us kids clubs. They were a little long for him at 9 but he is about to outgrow them at 11. His only complaint is the club make up as his game has improved. He really needs a 6 iron and a 3 wood now which is prompting a new set.

I took an old set of Callaway Xhot cavity backs and ordered Jr. shafts for my 9yo and had them put in. She has 5-P and then we did the same thing with a set of Vokey wedges 52, 56, 60. Best thing I ever did. Her gapping and dispersion are 100% better.

Here she is a couple years ago with a men's Cobra Radspeed on a Jr Aldila shaft driving #9 at the campus course from her tees so the "adult clubs are too heavy for kids" stuff is overblown. If a 7yo girl can do it anyone can

It's not so much a weight thing. It's kids grow non-stop and clubs that aren't fitted to their height can really force their swing to constantly change. No consistency means frustrated kids and bad results.

I'll see what brand my oldest has. She got them last Christmas. We were fitting through her golf academy for Pings or Calloways, but it felt like we were just constantly lighting money on fire.

There's a company that specializes in kids golf clubs. You buy in once about what good junior sets run and you can send them back twice for $100 to be re-shafted / weighted to adjust for their growing height. We haven't noticed anything negative from them and it's definitely helped being more fitted.

Edit:

They pulled up from golf practice right after I posted.

Ping ProdiG

You can not go wrong with the Ping Junior Clubs. I have compared them side by side to US Kids annd Epic on a launch monitor(both a good place to start). The ball speed off of the Ping club heads is always faster. They are made with good materials (US Kids are REALLY soft) and can be fit to your juniors with a FREE one time upgrade. I always first about 1/2" over where they fit to allow for a little bit of growth. I bought two sets for my junior golf programs and EVERY kids that hits them notices the difference. They are not cheap, but well worth it.

US Kids is far and away the most used type. Then the Ping Prodi-G and also look at Flynn Altos. We current use Altos as they are better than US kids for more advanced juniors

Fit +1" have the child to choke down until they grow a little, then every year re-shaft or add extensions. Cost me less than 200 to shaft and grip her clubs. I'll gladly pay 200 per year or 200 every other year for better tools for her. Youth golf is expensive. I am in the minority, I think, but I am unimpressed with the Ping ProdiG stuff. At this point we are not chasing distance, just trying to be as consistent as possible with ball striking and swing path. My opinion is- knowing where it's going and consistently doing it, are far more important than distance at the Junior level.

Ping ProdiG for sure. We got this for my son and then you get a free resize when they outgrow the original set. When he got to 5ft we sent them in for resize and had them topped out for his height, he used them for another year and then we have had Takomo since.

You can do that with drivers…you want to watch the weight on irons though. We use adult driver head with a ladies shaft trimmed down. Still use prodi g irons though.

the cool thing about our sons or daughters…they will improve and we will likely not.

you should set your kids up for success with properly fit clubs. It matters. Why make it more difficult. You might think they are hitting it "fine" with clubs that have been cut down, re-shatfted, etc. but they might be developing some bad habits and/or compensating techniques.

shaft length, flex, shat weight, club head size/weight - it all matter bases on their strength and coordination.
