Haven't done much golf travel. Looking for nice stay and play options for a few couples where wives don't play golf. They'll probably shop and spa and such. Reasonably close to Houston if possible.

Had a good time there this year. Hyatt Hill Country Resort in SA is fun too.

rent a house in New Braunfels or Boerne, and play the publics around there while the wifes hit up the shops.

Horseshoe Bay Resort has so much to offer, even for non-golfers.

Send me an email with some dates and I'll see what I can do for you.

Reasonable close to Houston....what is going on in the Woodlands these "daze"?
Further away:
Head east - Contraband Bayou Golf Club At L'Auberge Du Lac / Koasati Pines At Coushatta
Vaaler Creek out in Blanco / Pine Dunes Frankston / Crown Colony in Lufkin

You can't go wrong with any of the above suggestions either. Use your budget to winnow down your choices.

It's probably not for everyone, but I really liked Tapatio Springs. We also went with 4 other couples who are a lot of fun. Probably moreso about who you go with vs. where you go.

Any public course recommendations? My SIL lives in NB and MIL lives in Bulverde. Since my wife has gained some interest in playing, I now have an excuse to bring clubs down there during the holidays

Thanks for suggesting Tapatio Springs. They are actually our "sister property"...we are under the same management company. While they dont have all the amenities they do, it is a great value stay/play destination.

Can't go wrong with H Bay. But if wives shop there isn't much around. If you're content with staying put it's Great. Multiple spots to drink and eat. Varies with time of year though.

Glad to hear another Tapatio review. Have a positive one from a long time ago.

The NB swing from above is great idea. Bandit has rooms. Would detract from other activities though.

Fredericksburg if driving to golf works for you. Lady Bird, Llano River, Schreiner, and Buckhorn. Plenty for wives to do.

Some of those are further away from Houston but drive further to make the wives happy. Couple suggestion above are great courses but unless your wife wants to shop at the dollar store might skip places like Pine Dunes.

I assume you meant Vaaler creek and not Rebecca creek? Vaaler is awesome (except 14 green is still not back yet as of a couple of weeks ago). Rebecca creek is not real good

Actually, there is a TON of shopping near Horseshoe Bay Resort.

Marble Falls has a great downtown with tons of shops and eateries. Not to mention all the wineries/breweries/distilleries nearby.

Horseshoe Bay Resort also partners with Ford Bronco for their Off Road experience:

So much to do year round in the area.

Tapatio is in excellent shape, the clubhouse is very nice, also. But, make sure you specify a newly renovated room, especially if the wife is coming along.

We recently took putu up on his offer to help us with a golf weekend at Horseshoe Bay. We were only there Fri-Sun for a quick golf weekend with some buddies from A&M. The facilities at the resort were great. Restaurants on the property were fine for us, and they offered shuttles to the various courses. Once there, you didn't need to get in your car again.

We played Ram and Apple Rock courses. They were in phenomenal shape, and the pace of play was actually, pretty good. Both rounds under 4 hours at a resort was fine with us. Our focus was just golf and ...

Dont know what happened: ...hanging out watching college football over several cocktails.
