I was invited to play it around a month ago or so. Only bad thing I can say was I couldn't find my swing that day until hole 12~
Hidden gem, with am emphasis on hidden. Has a country gate, cattle guard, and intercom to buzz you in. If my friend hadn't brought me along I would have never guessed there was a golf course located nearby. Well taken care of. Not a lot of traffic due to them keeping membership #s low. They had carts. They allowed rangefinders. Hal Sutton and Sandy(I believe) Armour were both on property and came out around hole 5 or 6 shook our hands and talked to us briefly, while my buddy holed out for eagle. They spoke to us again after the round. Asked about our experience. They did mention they were planning to open the 2nd course. Only thing I remember was they said the acreage would be spread over more acreage than the current spreads across.
Quite a few blind shots were fun. Our host tried to give us the best lines as he could, a few were off a tad, so it would be cool to go back now that I know a little more how the course plays. Some of the holes gave you outs, but the rough on portions were pretty much lost balls it was so thick and deep. I'd say it was a mix of American golf and links, not quite a true links course. Hole #2 I believe was a super short blind par 3 and was probably one of my favorites. You hit towards a spot, and as long as you hit it over the mound/hill you get to open your Christmas present with everyone else when you drive around to the other side and hope yours is the one closest to the pin while you walk up.
Another par 3 green complex looked like this:
----___----
I'll remember it well because it was 1 of my only 2 birdies, so I fancied it more than my friends that didn't make it past the low lying portion of the green while the pin was on the far side of the green.
Most of the holes were pretty memorable the ones that weren't, were probably only unremarkable because of how poorly I played them and the trauma made me black them out. =) It was really neat playing it for the 1st time, to play a course I and most of my friends never heard of. Made me feel like I was out "adventuring" like we did as kids.
$300~ Covers all the golf you can play(we only had time for 1 round and a little time on the putting course before the rain forced us home) along with all the food/drink. We had a breakfast taco/sandwich and drink, lunch at the turn. snacks and drinks throughout (halfway house). Loaded up on gatorades, water, beers(my buddies), and sodas. Merchandise was a bit pricier than I had hoped, but kinda on par with courses such as Bluejack. Hope to get the invite again some day!
