Ours isn't until last week of October. I've never played in one yet as I'm a relatively new member. It is getting alot of hype though. Entry fee is pretty steep so they must do a lot of stuff. I actually don't plan to play because I don't have a guest I know who would want to play. Need an official handicap and my the friends I know barely play and have no handicap.

Ours starts tomorrow and my game sucks right now. But this is our best tournament so at least it will be fun.

Mine starts in 2 weeks. But, I'm recovering from gall bladder surgery 2 weeks ago yesterday. Doc gave me the okay to play in the tournament, but I'll only start taking full swings a couple of days before it starts. I had been playing pretty well before this. Maybe it will keep my team cost down in the Calcutta.

So, how'd we do this weekend?

Mine starts tomorrow

went into round 5 with a 3 point lead and ended up losing by 1/2 point as the team chasing us won 8-2. We think the team laid down but it is what it is, we should have played better as we only got 3.5 points.

It was a blast and we still took home some cash for 2nd.

Worst part is you go back and remember all the 5-6 footers that lipped out and playing a hike carelessly since we were up 3 holes at the time and knowing if one of those falls or we win/halve a carless hole, we are in as the team who won we beat 7-3.

We ended up 2nd. They gave us an opportunity the last day but we ended up with a tie in the last match. Always the best tournament of the year.

Yeah, we all think about those things. But even the guys who won have the same story.

Did you have a Calcutta? One of the things I don't like about our Calcutta is that you can buy teams in your own flight. Always leaves open the possibility of a team throwing a match if it can benefit them financially.

We have a Calcutta but you cannot own any portion of a team in your flight. Ours also has a option that if your team is bought by someone else you have the option to pay them 50% of their price for 1/2 your team back.

Yes, we have that 50% provision too.

Problem with our Calcutta is that you have guys forming groups that buy multiple teams in the tournament. So, inevitably, somebody that's a part of that "buying" group is probably going to end up owning at least a piece of a team in their flight. I can't swear that somebody has thrown a match, but I also can't swear that it hasn't happened.

I, and others in the tournament, have advocated for just having a fixed price player's pool. But the guys who run our tournament like to play for money. In fact, I rarely buy my own team outright because these guys run up the prices. I'll be 4 weeks recovering from surgery when my tournament starts and have only one or two rounds of full swings under my belt by then. If the price is too much, I might just tell them "good luck" this year.
