I have three grad school friends who will be flying down to Texas for their first-ever Aggie Football game. We're all flying into Houston and playing 36 at Black Horse on Friday. We're looking to book another round early on Sat. If A&M - LSU lands in the early time slot we're likely hosed but if not we should be able to get a round in. Thoughts on the best options reasonably close to Kyle? We're staying in College Station Friday and Sat night.

I was thinking we would likely need to go 30-40 mins out of town.

Nothing worth the drive within 30-40 miles of College Station.

Play the campus course if you're wanting to stay local.

I thought Blue Bonnet had ceased to exist. I just did a quick search on Golf Now and it doesn't show up. Played there a ton my senior year. Loved it back in the day. Great times.

Just a heads up, and SIAP, but reserving tee times for the campus course doesn't open until 2 weeks prior. Just played it Saturday before the Bowling Green game.

Try Legendary Oaks in Hempstead. Haven't played it in awhile, and it's not gonna blow your socks off, but it should be better than the campus course.

This is really the only real answer.

The City Course in Bryan (formerly Briarcrest Country Club), Raven's Nest in Huntsville, or Brenham Country Club would be second tier options.

Their greens right now are perfect and the fairways are good enough to play the ball as it lies. The bunkers and rough could be more consistent, but they're definitely playable.

Again, it'll be much easier for the OP to play Legendary Oaks than the campus course. I'm not arguing with you goofs any longer…..I just made a suggestion, he can take it or leave it.

Haven't played black horse in awhile but Cypresswood traditions and highland pines are close to the airport.

Blackhorse is "meh" right now. The course layouts are fine, but I played out there on the South about 2 weeks ago. While the course condition was OK, it's obvious they've spent a lot more time on Derecho and Beryl clean up (it got hit HARD).

Tradition at Cypresswood or Highland Pines are better options. If you have a way to get on Ben****er, then try that.

Say you are looking at getting a Membership at traditions. Boom

Northgate makes me think of a muni to be honest. But, in my defense I have only been there once.

I'm a member at pebble creek and most likely could get you on. Greens are looking good. Member-Guest is next weekend, so it should be solid.

Caldwell National is one of the finest 9-hole golf courses you will be able to step foot on that weekend. Honestly thought it will eat you for lunch but you'll enjoy the beating.

Is Pecan Lakes in Navasota any good? I played once back when they first opened and it was on the same level as Legendary oaks.

Recent reports have not been positive on PL and with how dry we have been recently, I don't see the playing conditions improving much.

Pecan Lakes is horrible don't go!

Is High Meadow Ranch any good?

Sat - Campus course. Greens were incredible. First time on the redesigned course. I'll be back!

Sun - Memorial Park. Excellent course. Thought it would be a bit better. Still happy to play it.
