Anyone ever break their wrist?

I broke my right distal radius at the end of May this year.

No surgery required luckily.

Was in a cast 6 weeks

At this point I have pretty normal range of motion with some tenderness and some limitation in wrist extension (particularly bearing weight eg doing a push up) and with supination

I played 18 holes for the first time last week and managed reasonably well. Had some tenderness after a sand shot on 8 with sand that was packed harder than expected. However I was I able to finish the round fine

Today I played my Second round and really struggled. Started on hole 9. Had a shot with ball above my feet and took a bigger divot than usual. Back nine was bad and nothing felt quite right

Anyone have experience with this? How long did it take to get back to normal?

I had a complete SLL tear in my left wrist and ligament reconstruction surgery a couple of years ago. It knocked me out of doing anything that put stress on my left wrist, especially golf. My hand surgeon said I wouldn't be able to play at all until he approved it after PT, and I wouldn't be able to play at my previous level for about a year. He was spot on. A broken wrist is a completely different injury of course, but I would guess that a year might be about right. When I started playing again, I wore a wrap brace around my left wrist. That really helped keep it stable and limited excess motion. After six months or so, I stopped wearing the brace when playing.

My suggestions:
  • Ask your doc what he/she recommends for resuming golf
  • Take it slow, don't push it.
  • Try regripping your irons with midsize grips for greater comfort. I've got Golf Pride CP2 midsize grips, they're great for reducing shock to the wrist.
  • If your PT gave you exercises for range of motion and stretching, don't stop doing them when you're back to playing golf fully again.

Good luck!

yeah, I am not actually doing PT.

My surgeon had me meet with one the day I took my cast off and after our last follow up.

at that last appt he thought I was ahead of schedule and said the best thing was just daily usage.

So, that's what i've been doing. However, I think you guys are right. I need more time and to be more diligent about PT. I looked up some good exercises on youtube and definitely feel those so I'll stick with those.

hope to have this up and going enough to get around in two weeks when my annual guys golf trip will be... heading to Cabot
