How long do you want to ignore this user?
Playing at whistling straits this weekend, but looking for another round the day before. i've played Blackwolf and Erin Hills is not available.

I have been told to try out Lac La Belle or as a cheap round that was entertaining, Washington County Muni was the other recommendation.

Any recs i am missing. Would like to be on the east side of 41 if possible. Plan to play in the morning and then drive to Sheboygan before 3pm.

First of all jealous as I love Whistling Straits.

Last time we were there we played Meadow Valleys (had always skipped it in the past) with zero expectations.

I really enjoyed it and had a great time on it. It doesn't beat you up like the others can.

Another good option is The Bull at Pinehurst Farms Golf Course. Really liked that course as well.

Lawsonia, Sand Valley, or Lido would be good choices.

Check out this No Laying Up video on the top public courses in Wisconsin.

I can't speak from experience, but I've been heavily researching courses in the area since I will be in the region in September. A few that may meet your location criteria:

The Bog
Ironwood
Naga-Waukee
Whispering Springs (closer to Fond du Lac)
Quit Qui Oc (near Elkhart Lake)

EDIT: Brown Deer and Hansen Park are two other courses that are closer to Milwaukee.

Washington County Municipal is a nice lower price option. The Bog is a cool option as well.

Also Lido definitely isn't accessible unless staying on property and even then not a guarantee. And booking on property on short notice not happening

I just realized that the River course at Black Wolf Run has been on U.S. Top 100 courses.

thanks for replies. here is a report for your trouble.

I played Washington County. Only got in 9 holes because of thunderstorm. Big A+ for two green fees riding it was 67 dollars. not sure how that is possible b/c the website said 50/each. Manicured perfectly tee-green. greens were slower than i am used to, but they were very well kept.

Whistling Straits was a good time. We played without a caddie and much preferred it. Teed off first for twilight and got 17 holes in with no issues and then took 40 minutes to play 18 b/c of people taking pictures on the green. ugh. We had all played it previously so no issue. It was in good shape, but the greens had taken a lot of ball marks due to wet weather lately.

For our trip next year we are planning Whistling Straits one day and then go to Sand Valley for two days.

Love Whistling! Pretty penny was spent in the pro shop too while we were there. We played the Irish course, but took several pictures of the Straights too. Was a work trip so that was the icing on the cake, didn't cost us a dime. We do a lot of business with Kohler and the tour of the foundry in town was awesome. Sheboygan is a cool little town with a ton of history.
