What do you think the score would be if:

1. You played straight up
2. You got 1 stroke per hole
3. You got 2 strokes per hole

1. 8&7
2. 4 & 3 he wins.
3. I actually think I win this. My reasoning. On my home course I usually par or bogey everything. Rare double. So he would have to eagle or birdie to just tie me.

Can I get him about eight beers deep before we tee off? He would still stomp me is A thru C, but C might be closer.

1. I lose 8 & 7
2. This would be the best battle. I average about 74 on my home course. Not hard for me to imagine him shooting 55 if he was really motivated.
I lose 1 down.
3. I win easily.

Also for the purpose of this thought experiment let's assume you are playing well but not out of your mind.

Like you'd put up a score that would count for your handicap but not shoot the best round of your life.

Scotty from the white tees at your average municipal course could probably do it if the greens were in good condition.

I don't know about that. It's more difficult than you think.

Bryson DeChambeau has a video series where he plays a 2-man scramble from the red tees. These have been the scores: -16, -18, -19, -20, -20, and -22.

We talk about it a lot when we're playing. What would the pros hit here? What line would they take? Etc. He's making easy birdies on 2 of the par 5's and hitting wedges into 2 more. Possible eagles. A number of our par-4's would be easily reachable with the lines he could take. 1 or 2 eagles there at least. If he was motivated, I could see him shooting - 17 on my 6500 yard course.

He shot a 59 at Texas Rangers golf club in a casual round with buddies. He probably couldn't find 4 strokes in a competitive round at a typical muni setup.

My 9 hole muni with 1 par 5 and 2 par 3s, he would on the green with his first shot on all 9 holes. I bet he'd should in the twenties, I'd love to see it

People always think pros would shoot a 55 or whatever on their local course, but that's not how golf works. Easy for them to go out and shoot low 60s on a course like that, but breaking 60, even on a short course, is really hard.

Give them birdies on all four par 5s. Sure.

Give them one birdie on a par 3. Why just one? Because even if the par 3's only average 150 yds, the average proximity for the best on Tour will be about 20 feet. And the best on Tour from 15-25 feet is making 1/4 putts.

So now they're -5, and we have 10 par 4s to account for. Let's even say half of them are driveable. Eagle is still highly unlikely, but I'll be generous and four birdies on five holes. So now that's -9, which is a 63 if they par the other five par 4s. Even if we give them two birdies on those, which again, means either hitting approaches inside 10 feet or making putts they statistically shouldn't make, that puts him at a 61. And that's with them playing well and without any silly bogeys.
bagger05

Yeah. I think it's safe to say he'd have decent birdie looks on almost every hole. But nobody makes every putt.

And even pros don't hit every shot perfect so they wouldn't be tapping in every time.

And while bumpy crappy greens don't affect me that much since I don't get it on line to begin with, I think the putting stats would be worse than what they are on tour.

I don't totally disagree with what you're saying, but I was thinking about my course in particular.

Wedges into at least 2 of our par-5's (probably), 7 iron or less into 2 others. Also, we play 390 - 400 yard par-4's around doglegs, where he is probably going to fly it right towards the green and have nothing left into the green if he doesn't hit it. That's 6 of our 10 par-4's. That's a very feasible 10 or 11 under in 10 holes, without doing anything really spectacular like chip-ins and holing out short pitches.

My best case for beating him in the stroke a hole format is that he really DGAS and I'm grinding like crazy.

TPC Oaks is too difficult. 1 stroke probably isn't enough, 2 strokes is probably making it too easy for me. Member/Guests back tees are 7,000 yards. That's a tough course and I'm not a bomber off the tee.

TPC Canyons? I think I can beat Scottie with only 1 stroke per hole. 75-79 is my number with a couple of even par scares. He would legit need to shoot a 60 or lower to beat me. Member/guests back tees are 6,600 yards, so he will feast. It would be close because he seemingly has ascended into the shadow realm of the golf world with his magic powers.

Don't want him on my course, he will tear up the tee box and the course with his right foot drag. I'm currently on a run for a nomination for the member of the month by fixing and sanding every divot and ball marks... OK not really, there's no member of the month. But I'd be sanding all his turf drags.

I agree that this is the difference. I've taken +5 handicappers to the little 9-hole course I grew up on and small grainy bumpy greens confound them. They won't make many bogies, but they don't make as many birdies as they think they should.

I would lose only 5&4 in the first scenario.

Did I mention my home course is a nine hole ??

I would lose likely 5&3 with one stroke

With two strokes it might be a match that is like 2&1

That was totally worth watching. First thought - those guys can putt! You really see it when they compress the time. Anything under 20 feet is just automatic if they can see it once. Second - damn Bryson is long. Wow.

Imagine the score if four of these guys show up at your charity scramble. No way they finish worse than third. (I don't think they are very good with an eraser or creative accounting)
