Interesting. Sorta sucks for the 72nd player who otherwise would have made it. Not even sure if Tiger will play in a bunch of these going forward or not.

Is it not an additional sponsor exemption so it's not taking away an existing spot?

Good question...are they going from 72 to 73 players, or are they removing one of the other sponsorships they had where the guys on the committee were just hoarding them for themselves?

We'll find out next year. He mentioned he's only got the Open left this year

I think it's a win win for everyone. Gives Tiger a chance to play if he wants, the Tour will always benefit from Tiger being in the field.

I'm guessing he won't always play so the part about having a list of alternates to always have 72 makes sense.

Yeah agree it helps for ratings for sure which helps maybe increase ad dollars for those events, etc.

I would have to imagine instead of costing someone a spot, they'll remove one of the other sponsor exemptions in order to account for this.

Looking forward to all the complaints when he's +10 and being shown for 3 hours with no chance to win.

Tiger will be an interesting follow the next couple years. He's still somewhat recovering from his rollover and he was walking better at Pinehurst than he has in a couple years. Although most people don't get better at his age, it's not inconceivable that he does get better as he gets healthier and further removed from his accident. I'm not saying he'll be a week-in, week-out competitor again, but I don't think it's crazy to think he could compete every once in a while if he's able to get to the point where the walk doesn't kill him.

He ain't getting better.

It's not the leg that bothers him it's the back that's held together with duct tape and chicken wire.

The only way he gets better at golf is playing more but the more he plays the worse his body gets.

Tiger has never played in very many tournaments so I don't see why we would start now.

I disagree. His leg has clearly been the bigger issue the last couple years. Pretty sure he's even made comments saying as much but don't have the time or desire to track them down right now.

I never said he'd start playing a bunch of tournaments. By his own account, once a month is probably best case scenario. Only that as his leg continues to strengthen, it's not inconceivable that his play improves.

I do agree he's got a lot of hardware holding him together and maybe it's too much to overcome. But he couldn't even walk 72 holes last year, had to withdraw repeatedly and looked to be in constant pain. He hasn't looked nearly that bad this year. Just saying maybe that continues to improve and he's able to occasionally put it together as a result.

What makes you think that would happen on Texags?
