Viktor Hovland is off to a rough start with bogeys on the first 2 holes. He's off to a slow start this season after ending last season hot. Scheffler has a new spider putter he's trying out. Through 2 holes it looked like he was still struggling putting, missing a short putt badly on hole 1 and bogeying hole 2.

Dang, 3 straight bogeys to start the round for Hovland. He looks bad today.

Crazy they couldn't find Fowlers ball there. It looked like it just plugged into the bank by the water and no one could find it. In the replay it didn't look like it rolled back into the water.
Hovland makes a nice long birdie putt to get back to 2 over. It looks like he has settled down since the first 3 holes. Maybe this will get him going.

Hovland bouncing back with another long birdie on hole 9, which is playing really tough. He's back to 1 over. That was the first birdie of the day on 9 by anyone in the field.
His SG around the green are back to being horrible after firing his short game coach who helped him so much. He hasn't played much so that skews his stats but still not good.
Curious to see if Scheffler is any better with this style putter. Guess he heard Rory's interview at Genesis.

Not sure. They were talking about it depending on if it was past that red stake or not.

The stretch of 16-18 out there is awesome golf. I have played it once and would to go back there again.
Speith with a very Speith like day- 3 birdies followed by 3 bogies on the front. now 3 more birdies on the back and currently at -3 with 4 to play.
Has this tournament always had this odd-ball number of players? Only 12 or so players are going to get cut.
No. This is a designated event now so a reduced field. Only certain one's have a cut like Genesis, Bay Hill, and Memorial I believe.
Max Homa had a good day today. Hoping he can make a run this weekend. He's quickly climbed the ranks as my favorite golfer. He's so much like an everyday dude and he makes it very easy to root for
It's nice to have some guys I root for in the mix going into the weekend. I hope Harman or Hovland wins it.
Clark tied for the lead. He's won 2 signature events and the US Open in the last 10 months. Just finished the Full Swing episode with him and pulling for his continued success. Wouldn't mind Harmon winning either.
Big fan of Clark. I listen to the Subpar podcast and they make it seem like he's a really cool guy. And he was a good guest on there as well. Seems down to earth.
Scheffler or Homa. Not a great start for the blue bloods so would be nice to see them coming into form for the Players and Masters.
Forecast calls for pretty strong wind this afternoon. Should be fun.

So #6 on this course has produced a +10 (Fleetwood) and a +12 (Knapp). Can anyone explain what's happening? I'm terrible and have scored more quads than can be counted, but dang, there's an upper limit isn't there?
Without looking its a risk reward hole. I am guessing they took an aggressive line and had to drop way back. Then put the drop into the water as well?

Best leaderboard of the year so far.
Sorry guys...those eye-popping scores I reported were raw scores on a par 5, not over-par scores as those implied. Still bad, but somewhat believable.

So good to see Willy Z balling out. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he wins the Masters this year.
