Have a dozen of MTB Prime balls heading my way. Going to compare them to the Taylormade Tour Response I currently use and the Kirkland balls I use as well. Anyone else use them or have any experience with the Snell balls?

I've been playing the MTB for about 3-4 years. Really like the performance and price. Some complaints about durability from balls made in the new facility but I have not noticed any difference in performance from the last 5 dozen I bought.

My only gripe is I liked the old logo better.

Did they change the construction of the ball with the new ball? I tried buying some last year but they were sold out and said they'd be releasing a new ball a few months later.

The original Snell were quality and comparible with Prov, supposedly as balls were made by same Co who made TM balls, Nassau out of Korea?

During the pandemic, there were supply issues and then TM now owns Nassau so Snell had to go to China and Taiwan to make the balls. MTB from China and MTB-X in Taiwan.

2023 My Golf Spy ball test rated Snell very low. Disappointing.

But I just received 5dz of MTBx yesterday and I'm fixin to try em out today.

I imagine the newest my golf spy review has really hurt them. The last ball review they did was probably a huge boon for business.

I'm still very loyal and haven't noticed any difference in my game as a mid handicapper.

I dont think they are as good as a pro v1 but they are not appreciably worse IMO and currently $30/dozen versus $50-55/dozen

Agreed,

Heading out to course now, will provide my subjective findings later. Will also do my own simulator test against other balls.

Planning on going to a simulator with all three brands I mentioned above to test them out. Then going to go to the course and see how they do there. Also forgot to add. I am going to test the Legato brand balls as well. Wanting to settle on a single ball that I can get the most consistent performance from.

Pursuit of finding $20 per dozen ProV alike balls will never end!

have you tried the Cut balls? I bought a box and used them this winter. They seemed to get pretty good spin around the greens. I am curious how they will perform in the summer time when it warms up.

I've tried a handful of direct-to-consumer golf balls, including Snell, over the years. I always find myself coming back to the Vice Pro Plus.

I played MTB-X exclusively before their COVID shutdown. Once they were available again I bought a bunch of the new ones and my excitement was quickly gone. I found the covers would scratch/cut crazy easy and stopped playing them once I wore through my first order. I'm back to paying up for Titleist.

Got my legato today. Just doing some putting here in the house they are very similar off the face to the tour response. Really pretty even from that limited "test" My Snells should get here Saturday. Excited to see how they all do on the course.
Eta: same distances with equal back swings and good rolls.

Played 9 with this ball.

No issues with distance or spin but the cover is brittle. Solid iron shot will cut it.

Will continue to test it out. Not got it on the simulator yet.

Similar to my experience. My first round with them I had a wedge from the drop area on a par 3 with a brand new ball. A solid strike with a 56 degree that spun well only to reveal a big gash in the cover once i got to the green. One shot and that ball was toast.

Will be interesting to see if the regular balls will scar up that bad. Being they are made in different factories they may have different durability.

I had the same issue with the new snell MTB prime ball getting cut up real bad. Emailed them and they sent me a label to send them back. I sent back 8 dozen and they just shipped me 10 dozen replacements. Played yesterday and definitely much better in that area

I really tried to like the ball.

I got a better sense of driver distance with MTB-X and I believe this may be the shortest driving ball I've used. This is a no go. I now have 5dz-1 Snell MTB-X that will not be touched.

Very disappointed.

Maybe you can trade them for an extra battery for your leaf blower.

Hell yeah I would. I think they will go in the shag bag.

I find they scuff when I hit trees with them.

Update on the Snell Legato and Tour Response balls from my round yesterday.
The Snell balls felt great and performed well but seemed to scuff pretty easily. I did not get the gashes or cuts on them though. I kept them in play and was not bouncing off trees or rocks, but they scuffed up.
The Legato balls also felt good and I enjoyed playing them. Durability was not a problem typical wear.
The Tour Response felt the best of them all. They held greens really well for me and honestly performed the best. Did not see any sign of wear other than grass staining after the holes I played with it.
My ranking after playing with all three
Performance:
  • Tour Response
  • Snell
  • Legato
Durability:
  • Tour Response
  • Legato
  • Snell

The best drives I hit with the Snell balls (longest 2nd straightest)
The Legato balls were about as long but were a bit more off line. (of course this could be user error admittedly)
The Tour Response were dead on line but were the shortest for me.

Just anecdotal from one round trying all three.
