I've never 5 putted, but I remember putting from the middle of the green to a front pin with a false front and the miss ended up in the water hazard. I was a 1 at the time, and the hole was #3 at The Falls probably 25 years ago.

I know the exact hole you're talking about. One of the toughest courses I ever played. Never shot a good score there.

You could see every miss coming. He got mad at himself for missing the first putt, and then refused to take a beat to recompose himself. There's a lesson there for all of us.

In high school I remember a kid in the class behind me playing in his first tournament. He told me how nervous he was to play the 18th at Linwood (Island hole). Said he just didn't want to hit it in the water with people watching.

Well, miraculously he did hit the green in regulation. THEN… things went down hill. He putted from the back of the green to the front and slowly watched his ball speed up and roll into the lake

Felt bad for him.
