Well put, Deluxe.

After playing golf at a relatively high level as a junior, I can tell you that being the best at 14-15 guarantees you nothing. The example I go to all the time is Chris Stroud. He was a "good" player at 14-15, but he never won anything. Never even came close, actually.

BUT, he liked to practice more than anyone not named Vijay Singh. By the time he was a Senior, he was a recruitable college golfer (went to Lamar). He's ended up making a damn good career out of playing pro golf. There was absolutely NO indication that he had that sort of ability and/or future at Charlie Woods' age. Golf development isn't linear, by any means.
remind me of select baseball. you're telling me my 6 year old who can hit the ball to the fence right now off a tee might not be a pro ball player when he gets older????

yep - and the real age where it's crazy is 12-13. Some kids have hit puberty and are miles ahead of their competition. Many of those same kids aren't' even good enough to make their high school team when they are 16, after all their peers hit puberty and pass them by. I've seen so many examples of this over the years.

A 15-year old kid nearly earned a spot at this week's Monday qualifier for the Puerto Rico Open. There was a tie for the top 4 and he lost in the playoff.
