Short little video for today. First time Tiger has dipped his toe into the YouTube golf content. Not the biggest fan of the Fore Play boys, but it was fun to watch 3 regular dudes freak out about hanging with Tiger for half an hour (much like how all of us would react).
I'm not the huge Tiger fanboy like many here are, but with that said does the younger golf fan in the 20's even give a crap about Tiger? I say that because most of these new youtube golf content people are all young and I feel like the Tiger fans aren't really there target audience?
I was a pretty avid listener to their podcast until Dan came on and they dropped Lurch but the Tiger thing was a long time coming for them.
They got some videos dapping him up at the President's Cup in Australia and then got another few minutes with him on the putting green at Pebble so this was a culmination of a lot of hustle for them and I give them props for it.
On the other hand, the fanboy-ing is hard to watch and some of the exaggerated antics by Frankie and Riggs are painful.
As far as Tiger, I'm 32 and I enjoy watching videos of Tiger in most cases because the information that comes out of him is unparalleled and I like that kind of thing from all pros but especially Tiger.

Most of the golfers in 20's I know worship Tiger. It's always fun to throw Jack the GOAT 18 vs 15 on their faces only to have them foam at the mouth of spewing 10 million illegitimate reasons why they think Tiger is the GOAT.
These are the kids who grew up watching him though.
Love their videos. I'm an older guy and Watson was and is my guy. Since I was 8. Love their total fanboy with Tiger because I'd be like that with Watson. TODAY.
My favorite golfer when I was a kid was Payne Stewart. Right before he passed was when Tiger started blowing up. He was impossible not to marvel over and it got a ton of us in my friend group out on the course and playing golf for the first time.
In the years since then, Tiger's been diminished by the off the course stuff, but my memories of him from about 1998-2008 are indelible. It was like Jordan had returned to the court. Can't miss television anytime Tiger was on a leaderboard on Sunday.
In the years since then, I've appreciated the way Tiger has talked about Payne Stewart, including his creation of Payne's Valley. I dunno, it's kind of tied my early golf memories and teenage fandom together.
Anyway, I relish any chance I get to see him play.

Watching old video's of Jack, I marvel at just how good he was with the equipment they had at the time. I'm fully convinced that prime Jack would be a force in today's game with today's equipment.

um no. People who are in there 20's these days grew up watching Spieth and Rory. They would be 7 years old or younger, possibly not even born during Tiger's biggest years basically.

Yes.
Tiger finished 2nd only to Rory in the 2023 PGA PIP incentive. If I'm not mistaken the PIP incentive is measured by fan engagement and publicity of which social media is the main driving factor.
I don't think you can be up there in the PIP standings without capturing the 20-something demographic.
Here's the top 10
1. Rory McIlroy $15 million 2. Tiger Woods $12 million 3. Jon Rahm $9 million 4. Jordan Spieth $7.5 million 5. Scottie Scheffler $6 million 6. Rickie Fowler $5.5 million 7. Viktor Hovland $5 million 8. Justin Thomas $5 million 9. Tommy Fleetwood $5 million 10. Max Homa $5 million

Maybe not but guarantee young golfers are excited about Charlie's future.

Tiger's last stint as world #1 was only 10 years ago. For a 25 year old today he was still a huge deal when they were teenagers

Alright, I'm a liar. I don't know any 20s golfers who grew up watching Tiger. All the 20s golfers I know only love Spieth and Rory.
I think y'all are missing the larger picture when it comes to Tiger. His popularity may have started with his dominance in golf, but he became a mythical figure because he quite literally changed the game. Because of Woods, golfers became fitter and started hitting the balls longer. They started changing courses and making them longer.
Then there's Nike. Phil Knight signed him to a bonkers $45MM contract in 1996 right after he turned pro and then built an entire brand around him. I am sure there were ads before Tiger, but I don't remember them, and I certainly don't remember them coming from a brand with world-wide recognition like Nike.
He was THE most hyped athlete to turn pro ever until Lebron James, and I'd argue Woods had it harder because of the racial component.
After he won the Master in 1997, golf in America saw it's biggest increase in rounds played in history. Ratings jumped and then earnings quickly followed across the board. He made golf cool for maybe the first time in 100 years and was bringing kids (like me) into the fold. Ya'll remember "I am Tiger Woods"?
Then there's video games. EA Sports debuts Tiger Woods Golf in 1998, and it's called Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the next 14 years when he would finally cede the cover and title to Rory McIlroy in 2015.
That picture is from the 2018 PGA Championship.
He's in the pantheon with Jordan, Ali, Gretzky, Usain Bolt, Babe Ruth, and Pele as far having the biggest impact on a sport ever, and he may be #1 by a wide margin.
Davis Love III was the rising star when I started playing, and everyone including me was captivated by his new era length off the tee. I had no interest at the time in old farts like Arnold Palmer who supposedly used to be good.
Then about 10 years later I had a chance meeting with Palmer in a parking lot and talked for 30-45 seconds, just him and me. Holeeee sjit. Now I know why they called him The King.
Pretty crazy how Nike was able to get MJ and TW. Enjoyed the "air" movie and I wonder how much that influenced Tiger to go with Nike or Nike seeing how much value MJ had on the game and saw the same in Tiger.
Back to the original point, the Tiger/ForePlay video. He looked buff but also stiff. That fusion has his mobility locked up. Strange he would hit a tee shot from his knees with all that could possibly go wrong. Also, I know he's got some awkwardness about him but he looked like he was on something.

Yeah I was like somebody get him just one golf ball and hurry the hell up lol !

Haha I was at the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits for a work trip and they had a fairway side suite for us. Really nice setup but the owner of the company took a call and started talking to 'Tommy' giving him directions and 5 minutes later Tom Watson and his son walked in. Tom hung with us for like 2 hours and his son was there for both days I was there. Surreal experience.

This seems like the nut low take on this particular video. Holy cow. Good to hear he plans on playing once a month this season. Hope it works out.
My son got to intern for the PGA at the US Open at Pebble Beach in 2019.
He got a few breaks and got to go watch during the weekend. He watched at one hole for an hour and when Tiger played thru and the entire crowed was silent like like Jesus himself was walking on water. Said it was pretty awesome. He's only 25 and know who Tiger is and definitely pays attention when he does something, good or bad.
