Planning a bachelor party in the Metroplex for last weekend of February and looking to golf. Looking for a great course for under $100/person for Saturday mid-day and trying to think of all of the best options. Ones that come to mind are:

  • Rockwood in Fort Worth
  • Stevens Park in Dallas
  • Pecan Valley in Fort Worth

Any others I should be considering? Any other courses worthwhile that I'm not thinking of with that budget or courses that are surprisingly in good shape as of late?

Lastly, we're thinking about doing The Swing Friday night up in Frisco. How easy or difficult is it for a group of 5-6 to walk up and get a tee time then?

All the course you mentioned are good. Grapevine is another good Muni

But at that budget you have tons of options

Texas Star - Euless (my #1 choice in this scenario)
Sky Creek Ranch - Keller
Waterchase - Arlington

I know nothing of Dallas County

I'd look at The Tribute and Old American in the Colony, and Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine (includes food and non-alcoholic bev)

For your budget I would recommend Texas Star or Stevens Park and my vote would be Texas Star.

Rangers is awesome and will be overseeded because of the spring Korn Ferry tournament. It's a very fun track that is fairly friendly off the tee.

Everything listed so far is solid, lots of good public golf in DFW. I really enjoy the Tierra Verde layout in Arlington, and Pecan Hollow in Plano has some of the best public greens (minus Waterchase) in the metroplex. Should have options just depends where exactly you're staying.

Swing shouldn't be any issues with walkup, neat place too can do some putting contests, replays are 1/2 off too at the swing.

I drove up from Houston for a scramble at Tierra Verde back in October and really enjoyed the course. I'd probably play there over any of the public courses in the Houston area. Not to mention the beer cart girls blew away anything I see around here.

There is no Comparing the Dallas cart girls to houston cart girls. Houston isn't even close.

None of these are close to $100. Great courses though.

Don't expect great conditions anywhere you play in Feb.

February is the worst month for Golf. It's going to effin cold. That said, Cedar Crest is an amazing course that's in fantastic shape and it's pretty easy to get on with a week notice. The 1927 PGA was played there and won by Walter Hagen. They just had the Southwest Showcase there in November so it is as pristine as possible for this time of year. They still had all the ads and ESPN signs when I played there a few weeks ago.

Are the greens back because they lost them for a second year in a row and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone back in the Summer. They had lift clean and place within a putter on the greens when I played the Dallas Am qualifier. They had to postpone the above tournament because they were so bad.

Tierra Verde
Stevens

The tournament they held in November at Cedar Creat was televised on the Golf Channel.

Greens looked fine and were rolling well.

I've played that course many , many times ( it's my favorite, period) and I've never seen it as amazing. The greens are absolutely perfect.

My brother loves that course. Will hopefully make it back out there this spring.

Tribute is $110 weekday. Hadn't checked pricing at Cowboys recently…their green fees have skyrocketed.

I must be spoiled trash because I've never thought Texas Star is that great. Much prefer WaterChase, Rockwood, Tierra Verde.

If staying on the Fort Worth side, I'll put a plug for either Sugar Tree (west of Weatherford) or Squaw Valley (Glen Rose). Both are a drive, but worth it for a 3 hour round on a Saturday afternoon.

This. Maybe it was impressive 10-15 years ago, but there are so many better options than Texas Star.
