What are your goals? What will ultimately help you make these goals become reality (or what have you already done to help)?

1a) Shoot even or better for my 1st round of the year. (Benn playing consistently +4 to under par in my last 5 rounds, including -2 yesterday, so I've got some confidence in my game).

1b) If I go under par for my next round it'll complete my goal to have 2 consecutive tournaments under par.

2) Increase swing speed/distance - to be consistently over 270 (Using speed sticks 3-4 times a week, working on fitness (core strength and flexibility).

3) Improve PB to 66 or lower. (Since Pebble Creek will be redoing the greens I'm gonna take a few lessons, focusing on iron play).

4) Play more tournaments outside of the MGA. Started with MGA this year, added my first member guest and it's got the competitive juices flowing. Already ran some out of the city tournaments by the wifey and was encouraged to possibly do more than what's on my list.

5) Do a driver fitting and then purchase that driver. Not sure if I'll wait for vendors coming to the club or if I'll use GolfTec.

Shoot my age. I turned 67 last year and shot 68 on my birthday. 67 or 68 after my 2024 birthday is my goal.

To answer the other part of OP's question, I need to make more birdie putts from 15 feet and in. I'm getting a lot of good looks for birdie in that range that I'm not making. Need to work on that part of my game.

Lol. I've said it before on here. That's not a problem now, but when we were all picking email names and user names at the dawn of the World Wide Web, it was definitely an issue!

Goal 1 - get my handicap below 10. Currently a 15.9. By practicing three times a week. One full hour dedicated to chipping and pitching.

Goal 2 - play at least 20 rounds next year.

Goal 3 - continue to develop good tempo / takeaway with the long clubs, especially driver.

I get it, played yesterday and duck hooked a drive on a par 5. Hello double bogey.

1. Break 80 for the first time and multiple times
2. Get HC under 10 - currently 14.2
3. Play 20+ rounds

A few different ways to attack the first two, but those are the big goals.

Break 70. I've shot 1 and 2 under a number of times to shoot 70, but I still haven't carded in the 60's.

I've said this before and I will say it again.

Goal setting and wishful thinking are not the same. Goals should include task at hand to achieve certain outcomes one desires.

So if a goal is to win certain events, there needs to be scripted processes you have to partake in to achieve the outcome.

Happy New Year ****ers!

Nice set of goals. I bet #4 is the key to your improvement.

Shoot under par for 18. Last year I shot 72 for first ever E round. Have been under on a 9 but never full round.

Also try to be more results focused and not swing focused. If I still can score without making a "perfect" swing just be happy. No pictures on the score card.

Good luck everyone.

Hence why I placed the, "What will ultimately help you make these goals become reality (or what have you already done to help)?" in the initial post.

Thanks for the reminder, including the tasks necessary to accomplish goals is vital to achieving them.

Well then someone set up a "golf wishful thinking 2024" thread for those of us who aren't going to put in the work and are going to rely strictly on a hope and a prayer!

1. I setup a 10x10 Golf Cage in that backyard to be able to video and work on my swing without having the results of the swing impact what I'm working on.
2. I plan on hitting at least 125 balls a week not on the course
3. See 1 and 2.
4. I can't spell, meant to be win.
5. Focus on shots 50 yards and in. It's a shorter course than the one I play. Hopefully get a few practice rounds in before I play.

I just want to be physically healthy enough to play again. Fell way short of my 2023 goal of playing at least once a month. I'll take what I can get at this point.

My goal is 100 hours of golf, preferably 50 hours of practice and 50 hours on the course.

Bonus goal: Take my son golfing 10 times, regardless the form it takes..

1. Get Handicap down to under 6... at 8 now and will be at 10 in next couple rounds unless I get some good scores in soon
2. Find time to practice consistently and do form drills
3. Learn to strategize better to avoid blow up holes and penalties, currently a big weakness
4. Get Par 3 average under 3.5.. currently at 3.9 and its a weakness according to Grint
5. Get putts per round to 33 or under... currently at 34.5 and need to make my non-GIR putts better

Last years:

-Start taking lessons - done
-Find time to practice at least a couple times a month, with goal of once a week - was able to practice couple times a month
-Get to a 7 or better handicap... got down to an 8.5 in summer but basically a 12 now - got to 7.5
-Get fit for irons & wedges, buy if the numbers are much better then what I have now - got fit for irons and purchase, fit myself for wedges... love them all

  • Play bogey golf
  • set aside time to practice, not just show up to the course to play.
  • consider "saving par" rather than trying to hit hero shots.
  • stop trying to go for the green with a wood on 2nd shot par 5's. Just get within my comfort zone for a green seeker,

16 handicap, been playing for 1 1/2 years. 27 rounds last year

Last Year Per 2023 Goals:

"Played competitive golf most of my life. Walked away from the game about 10 years ago, haven't practiced and played maybe 20+/- times since. Have a co-worker who is scratch/+ and obsessed. He wants me to play US Four-ball and some other regional tournaments with him. He convinced me to reestablish my amateur status, which I have done.

My goal is to get out there and play a few tournaments without the pressure I once carried and see what happens. Mentally, it will be tough to be mediocre compared to the player I used to be, but I guess I get to learn to stretch that muscle this time around.

+ hcp is a stretch goal for the year."

2 for 2 on tournaments- qualified for Dallas Am and Texas State Mid-Am, Carded 20 rounds, +hcp, practiced 10 times

2024
  • Qualify for Dallas Am, Texas Am, Texas Mid-am, and get through a Monday qualifier for PGA tour event (Houston, Valero or Byron), prob try US Am and US open qualifier as well.
  • Get to +2 hcp or better
  • Practice 25 times
  • Card 30 rounds
