typically highs in the 60's and lows maybe in the 30's. Its a great month to go to west texas.

Sounds like a great time for a day trip from San Antonio.

Is Lajitas really worth it? Friends want to go down for 3 days and play the course like 3 times. I'm not a big fan of playing the same course multiple times.

It may be the most fun course I have ever played. Lots of elevation changes. Lots of wildlife to see. We actually saw a roadrunner chasing a coyote across a fairway. We were waiting for the ACME bricks to fall out of the sky!

Food at the restaurant is very good and there was live music in the bar every night we were there.

My mother grew up in Alpine and I grew up in west Texas so I am partial to that part of the world. I love the vistas.
Make the trip. You will not regret it. Eat one night at The Star Light Theater.

In the mornings the lows can easily be in the 30s so get a later tee time. Wear layers as by afternoon it will be warm.

I played it three times and enjoyed it a little more each time. It's not tricky but I feel like you get a better understanding of the risks.

It's a great course. Would love to go back.

I just realized I'll be about 2 hours away from there this weekend on a hunting trip…maybe I should figure out a way to play it.

How is it for the wifes? Main problem my wife also has is it looks like not so nice accommodations and little to do if not playing golf. Help me sell this please!

my wife and her friends went out there and loved it - they didn't play golf. I think they did the spa, pool, and a couple of trails with guides - including an all-day trek of the south rim trail.

other things to do - horseback riding, jeep tours, river rafting, shooting

Big Bend Park, Terlingua

If she's into outdoor activities then there will be some options. Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park are both close and have good hiking and such. You can rent a car from the resort to get around if you're going to do this.

Terlingua is nice for one evening.

Lajitas has some activities like a sunset horseback ride and shooting. I'd email or call to find out what's open (I think mostly they shut down for it being too hot, but not everything is available all year).

Also my wife and my buddy's wife don't play but they really enjoyed being out on the course with us. The course is really beautiful and they hung out and had cocktails while we played.

You are correct that the lodgings are not very luxurious.

the deluxe rooms, suites, and villas sure look nice. Sort of remind me of The Gage Hotel

There may be some old rooms and new rooms -- could be I stayed in an old one.

And the ROOM we stayed in was fine -- it was just the bed and sheets that were lousy.

The newer rooms are comparable to The Gage Hotel rooms. These rooms are across the road from the office and older rooms.

There is also a spa but I don't know how good or nice it is.

Like bagger, my wife enjoyed the scenery on the course.

Wife can ride w you while you play. We stayed across the street. Javelina in the courtyard every night. Good food and live music. Big Bend is close. Go if you've never been.

You will love the putting green. There is some history in the middle of it with good country music playing.

Really big too.

Let us know what you think upon your return.

Got back late Wednesday. Been a little busy!

Course was in great shape. Greens are definitely the defense of that course, but I putted well the entire time and killed myself off the tee on a few rounds. We played 18,36,36,18 so playing that many rounds gave us a pretty good lay of the land. We played 2 rounds each from yellow, maroon and black boxes. Elevation difference is large for the maroon and black vs yellow. There is a forward mens/women's tees too that are red.

I would highly recommend going, but it's not a place I'd go a second time. Just too many great locations out there to do something similar. We scored their package 50% off on a late sign up deal so in my mind that was a steal after experiencing it.

We had weather in the morning of low 40s and highs 58-63 each day on the 3 night trip. So layering was key, but it's in the 70s there now so this time of year probably can plan for anything.

Sun and clouds made a huge difference in how this course looked day to day.

I looked it up recently about going possibly over Christmas break, but after seeing green fees I balked. Seems like I remember last year it was like $100 a round, $200+ now if staying at the resort. $300+ if you're not staying at the resort. For what they are wanting to charge and the time/effort to get out there I am not sure if it is worth it.

They ran a promo for the after thanksgiving trip for 50% off. It shook out to like $1075 for double occupancy and $1250 for single. That included flights and 2 rounds and you could flip the resort activity to golf for $25 for a third round. They charged a replay rate of $135 for our extra rounds. Just had some friends price it out for March and it was easily double this which isn't worth it to me, but for the price point we paid it was a deal. Food options are decent, but limited. We went into Terlingua to Starlight Theater the last night and that was easily the best meal.

May not mean much to some, but my best description of this course was Coyote Springs meets Wolf Creek.

March is peak season for there and thus more expensive.
I enjoy the drive out to that part of TX but I know many people do not.

I enjoy it, but the problem is that's 11-12 hours of driving that kills a full day on either side of your trip.

Was that deal with the flight through JSX? And if so how was that experience, been thinking of pulling the trigger if those deals pop up some next year.
TitanAGGIE09

Yes, JSX is great. We hop it back and forth for work between Dallas and Houston as well. I have yet to have a delay or bad experience using JSX outside of weather. Can't say the same for SW which we basically abandoned at this point. Plus, not having to enter main terminals is a game changer

Not having to mingle with the commercial aviation population is one of the main perks of private. Airports are the new bus station for the great unwashed
