A franchise of GolfTec just opened up on University Dr, near Michaels/Ulta/Half Price Books.

Went the other day for a swing evaluation and considering buying one of their packages and wanted to see if anybody had dealt with them before and had any input/suggestions.

There is only one coach at this location for now, and he said he transferred from a Florida location and has been with the company for several years.

Really like the appeal of using the simulator as an indoor driving range.

What do you guys think?

This is my first time hearing about it. I most likely won't visit, as I'm fond of where my game is. But it's nice to know so I could refer others.

I take that back, I could see myself going for a fitting potentially.

It's always best to use outdoor driving ranges with actual grass

I did not care for it.

The busier locations especially shuffle you out the door, and have 30 minute lessons in their package. It's not enough time to really get things grooving and taught.

I've been with them at a different location since march and I enjoy it quite a bit. The numbers and video feedback really fit how my brain works.

I go to the one in The Woodlands and like my guy a lot. You can do 1 hour lessons as well, not just 30 mins. The practice time that comes with the lesson package is the most important thing IMO. You can block out 30-60 minutes for practice. Reserving a space is easy with their app. I find most have a love it or hate it opinion on them. For me, its worked.

This is technically true, but may not be functionally true. My location was so busy with so many different students that the bays weren't available for hour stretches unless you booked months in advance. Made it very difficult to get actual times on a good cadence.

I use them I'm Houston. I really like it. Watching the video works really well for me. I've watched so much golf over the years that seeing me on video I can damn near most of the time see the issue before the coach tells me. Not sure I could do that without the video and someone just telling me what I need to fix.

I did it for 6 months when I really had the time to practice and get better and got a ton out of it. Definitely improved my game. Biggest key is finding a coach that seems good to work with. There was one coach here in Virginia, where I went, that just seemed like he had no clue how to teach. I felt bad for his students.

Are they just a fitter? Or is it a retail store too?

With GolfTec it completely depends on the guy you get. When I went to the one near Memorial City Mall in Houston, the average coach age was probably early 20s. Most of them recently graduated HS or College players. They basically taught one type of swing. If it works for, you, great. If not, you're completely revamping what you do.

Other locations may be different, and based on responses there are a lot of good experiences.

I liked the unlimited practice while in the lesson plan...that part is worth it. Indoors, with a camera, and you can book as many sessions as you want. I didn't like that a session was 30 minutes and you basically had to book 2 session for a full hour.

This is similar to my experience with them about 20 years ago. I got a very young instructor and the only thing that we worked on was holding lag. What we missed was that I was hanging back on my right side and my trail elbow was getting stuck behind me causing a flip. I got frustrated with them because I didn't see any progress and stop going to them with 5 lessons left on the plan that I bought.

I also have a golf buddy that goes to GolfTec. He likes the instructor that he has, but he's probably playing worse this year than ever.

As for their technology, I think that it's great. It might be worth buying a lesson plan just to be able to use their gear to practice with.
