Booked rooms a ways out of town but called Ft Gordon lodging and they said they typically open the rooms the month before. Curious as to how hard it might be to get them or if anyone has inside knowledge on when, exactly, they'll open up.

I stayed there 10 months in 1989. I rate it 1 star and would not book again.

Some places around Augusta can be very sketchy.
Went last year with son, DIL and grandson. Got a VRBO in the Lake Oconee area. Worked well.

But make sure the house is not too far off the interstate. Those roads around the lake are narrow and winding. Especially difficult at night or earl in morning before day break.

Following. We got an Airbnb in Columbia. If you're going to drive, what's the difference in an hour? At least, that was our consensus.
