Playing with some friends at Grand lakes Estates in Montgomery this weekend. Used to play at High Meadow Ranch and enjoyed that course a lot. I tried to look up the course and find some information but have not been successful. Anyone played out there and have any thoughts on it?

I have a few times. I like it. really out of the way, low key place. it's been a few years though so I don't know what condition it is in.

Yeah I checked their website and all that but just not much course information besides rates. Was looking for some course conditions, hole setups, condition, etc... Appreciate it!

It's five minutes from my house so I play it often. It is not fancy. There is no driving range, no putting green, no food, no drinks, no nothing. The conditions are okay. Greens and fairways are pretty good. Rough, bunkers, and tee boxes usually not great.

That said, I absolutely love the layout of the course. There are so many interesting holes that I always find myself wanting to play it over courses that are in better condition and have more amenities. it is also never crowded so I can get a round in under four hours by myself.

Basically everything beerag said…

Really cool layout. Conditions come and go. Tees and fairways are rough. Greens have been pretty good lately. Bunkers are usually "ground under repair."

BYOB. BYO water/gatorade/food.

#9 doesn't come back to the clubhouse (not that there is a clubhouse). Holes 7-16 were designed by Gary Player. 1-6 and 16-18 by someone else… and you can kind of tell. LOTS of cool shots/holes.

Just go out and enjoy yourself. Got some tough holes, not always great or pristine conditions. But a good time can be had with group of friends as it's never usually busy and it's BYOB. I consider it worth the $50 or so they charge.

if it wasn't so far from where I am now I would definitely be playing out there.

One group of holes was designed by Jeff Blume a local architect who also did Sterling at Houston National, Elkins Lake, and the Campus Course.

It's a hidden gem to just get away and hack away.

First time I played the guy had a huge dead water moccasin draped over his desk. Can't recall the hole but there is an elevated tee box that would put your line of site over the pine tree tops out in the distance. Unique for the area. Would have liked to play the waterfall par 3 with water in the falls though.

You're talking about #11 tee shot. That's a great looking hole and you can see for miles fro up there. They've softened a lot of the course because it used to be fairway or gunch… now they've cleared a lot of it out and you can actually find your ball just off the fairway.

Was wondering if the pic above with the tank top was that hole. Whatever box that is wouldn't have had all the small pines. Around that stretch the only trees were the palm toothpicks.

I've played out there once with group of 10 together. Not any byob brofest courses out there I know of.

The tank top pic is the back tee box of #14.

Played about a month ago. Greens were solid (good coverage). Everything else was typical Grand Lake… scruffy. Enjoyable day though.

Played this morning and was pretty impressed for my first time out there. Rough was thick and hard to find balls that missed the fairways but greens were in great shape. Some fairways were hard pan in spots but for the price and layout it was nothing to complain about. I'll be back. I enjoyed the bare bones attitude out there
