Curious what yall recommend? I need a new rain jacket for both golf, and of the course. preferably one with a hood, which seems all be non existent for some reason?

I think the theory with the hood is that most folks don't want to swing a club with a hood on, and if it's not up 100% of the time, then it's a mechanism to gather water and dump it down the inside back of your jacket

This question is a loaded one pending budget. On the more affordable end, I've got some great stuff from Ping that i've been really happy with. On the expensive end, Galvin Green is popular. For headwear, the FJ waterproof bucket style has always done me right

Agree this is a buy once cry once situation...I prefer Zero Restriction but you can't go wrong with either

I have a FootJoy model that's 2 or 3 years old. I like it for the reason of the removable sleeves. I wear medium in just about everything. If I don't have a 2nd layer shirt on it fits bigger than I prefer.

I do have a Travis Mathew hoodie that's pretty much the same material and I actually prefer it. Fits perfect as well. I do at times use the hoodie between shots, but honestly I don't play much in the rain unless it's on a trip.

I fully understand in life you get what you pay for...... but is there anything in the golf industry more overpriced than rain gear? Good grief
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

I want to try the stuff from Kjus. That's super expensive too but several players wore it during the masters down pour this year.

Sunice has been good to me. I'd go 3/4 sleeve. Way more comfortable and the zephyr material is more breathable than goretex

Galvin Green, Kjus, or Zero Restriction. Could not go wrong.

I did hear Zero Restriction bout Kjus, but not sure if that is case.

Zero restriction gets a lot of pub but looking online I can't seem to find anything with lifetime warranty which seems nuts for the prices they are charging

ETA: just saw the z2000 is warranted for life. $$$$ though

I save money on rain gear by not playing in the rain

I am playing 10 rounds in Ireland in August. Damn straight I will play in the rain. And yes, I will buy quality rain gear as an insurance policy. Six hundred dollars for rain gear? Yes. If I never use it, it will be the best insurance policy I have ever purchased.

Totally fair and I would do the same

I've been in the golf business for over 30 years and every time I think about buying good rain gear my wife looks at me and says, "You don't play golf in the rain". Then I go back to looking for something else.

I am on the opposite side of this one. As my friend in the Pacific NW has taught me: There is no such thing as bad weather for golf. There is prepared and unprepared (and lightning which is the exception).

I look at rain like wind, just something else to take into account when playing.

My current lineup has a zero restriction rain jacket and rain pants from Columbia.

You are correct. Depending on where you live it matters. I live in central Texas, so I can usually wait a day and play in good weather. i also get to play a lot, so that matters too. I bought rain gear for Scotland and Ireland, I thought it was important to have good stuff.

I thing Golf Galaxy has a brand, maybe Walter Hagen, that seems good for the very rare use. If I thought I was only going to need it a few times, I would do that. It is way less than the 3 that have been discussed.

I don't play much in the rain but I have a set of Frog Togs for when I get caught in it.

They're not fancy but like I said I may use them on the course 1 or 2 times a year so I'm not about to spend on high dollar rain gear.

I love Galvin Green, but for someone who runs hot, Kjus is a better product. Same build quality but………..They use a more breathable waterproof material than GG, and it feels so much better on me, especially when it's not super cold.

Only played one of those. Sounds like an amazing trip.

For Portmarnock, stay out of the bunkers, there are a few that the only way out is to play is backwards.

I would recommend going into Howth for dinner on the days/nights for Portmarnock and The Island Course . There is Beshoff Bros fish and chips or if you want something more sit down The Pier House Howth is really good seafood.

When you are at Lahich if you drive through Doolin, Fitz pub is a good bite.

If all else fails and you don't know where to go for dinner or to grab food just stop in the local pub. Generally a good experience no matter what.
