My club match play championship journey

TLDR: I won and I'm the the champ.

Started in June 2022 and I lost my first match 1 down to a 10 HCP whom I had to give 8 strokes to. It put me in a major slump and I sucked ass for 3 months.

Through one loss bracket, I played 4 matches and beat all one loss players, 5-4, one up, 3-2 and 2-1.

Then I had to beat a player from a no loss bracket final loser and beat him 2-1.

So I was matched with the no loss bracket winner but had to beat him twice.

Beat him twice 2-1 and 2-1.

Played total 8 rounds and won 7 straight.

I love golf.

My opponent and I talked about it. He proceeded to tell me our club pro actually carried his stihl backpack blower with him in the fall.

I won not against my opponents but against me.

Many earlier matches, I'd get 3-4 holes up and started to celebrate in my head, how I'm going to text my buddies and brag.. Thinking about the next match etc only to lose 3-4 straight holes.

Staying present and only focusing on the next shot. Never did I tell myself I need to birdie or Par next hole. But often I got ahead of myself.

But the final match, I started 2 down first 2 holes. But I was able to just focus on the next shot and block out all distractions.

This match was a great learning experience. I won!

Tell me about it. Brackets were released at the end of May and we played our first match in June. I then played my matches 2-4 in September-October, Match 5 in December, 6 in January, 7&8 in February.

March format will be revised this year. This had a lot to do with allowing one loss to stay in the match.
