Ben Silverman and Aaron Rodgers win the pro am at -26 through 3 rounds.

Pro Ben Silverman misses the cut - he does make 13 birdies over 3 rounds though.
So, Aaron Rodgers (a 3.8 index in Wisconsin - Green Bay CC I might add ) is a 10 handicap for the tournament.
An average legit 10 handicap only makes about 6-7 pars a round. Handicap determined by BEST 8 of the last 20 scores.
so, on the 41 holes remaining for Aaron to help the team (Aaron making a net birdie doesn't help if the pro makes birdie too) he makes 13 birdies or more likely net birdies on his stroke holes. AND makes par or net par or better on the 12 holes where the pro makes bogey or worse. i.e. comes through in the clutch on 20-25 of 41 holes. Could be some overlap - hard to know exactly without Aaron's marked scorecard.
Statistically highly unlikely for a 10 handicap - possibly for a 4 handicap with length and a decent short game (AKA Aaron Rodgers)

I could not find Aaron's scorecard to dig deeper and see exactly where he was getting pops but I think you get the premise of the argument.

Blatant Sandbagging or All Pro Ham & Egg ?

Can a true 10 handicap pull this off ?

Maybe the tournament marked him as a 10 with the argument that he probably hasn't touched a club since July?

Nope. He has played some.

10 scores since July - 3 this year.
2 last year had negative differentials - essentially under par when compared to the course rating.

It could happen. Sometimes you stumble upon something.

He's got a weird-ass handicap. It's a 3.0 but 14 of the 20 rounds are 83 or higher. Looks like he's got an E and a -1 in there that really bring it down. If you count a practice round, he got 4 rounds in before the tournament, so I think using a layoff as an excuse is weak.

All that said, I think his official handicap should have been used and the weekend showed it. It's a measure of what you are capable of, and it seems to have been.

So sandbagger. 3 to 6-7, I could see. 3 to 10 is really generous.

well he isn't the only am in the tournament who is playing to a different handicap for the tournament, so there's that....

Right, I mean it all depends on how generous they are in general. If giving 7-10 more strokes to people for shaky reasons is the norm, then fine

What was the course rating? It would have to be a 79 to add 7 pops to his handicap

Sounds like me if I'm playing to score or playing to get away from kids and get black out

The No Laying Up guys said something about it on the podcast this week. Soly said It has something to do with a locked handicap if you have missed the cut previously. I could be totally wrong.

What was par for the tournament? If it was 70, then there's two pops right there. A 3.8 rounds up to a 4.

It is played on 3 courses, Spyglass 72, Pebble 72 and Monterey Peninsula 71. There is usually a final cut and 4th round at Pebble on Sunday, but because of the weather delays, they ended the Pro Am after 3 rounds.

They shot -26 and Rodgers contributed on 27 holes. Pretty helpful 7x3

Josh Allen finished 4th. His partner (Mitchell) was -10.
Josh Allen played a 3 handicap I think.

When they both played in The Match last summer, Allen was an 8-9 and Rodgers was about a 4.

Rodgers is a much better golfer than Allen.

Any Amateur that wins this with a pro that missed the cut is a huge sandbag.

This feels very Aaron Rodgers-y.

I became a Keith Mitchell fan on Sunday. He's in contention a couple of shots off the lead, he agrees to a CBS on-course interview while playing #3 (wears one airpod that they interview him thru) and they pretty much talked his ear off the entire time - from the moment he stepped off the tee until he was literally reading his putt on the green, except for a fairly short break to hit his approach. He was insightful and really cool about it
