What ya got? Hopefully some of us can bump this thread and post when we accomplish our goal.

I got back to a 4.6 earlier in 2022 after our 3rd child was born but joined a club here in Houston which is just a difficult course for me. Handicap jumped up to 6.9....trying to get back below a 5 and hopefully to a 3.

I gave up my 4 iron today for a 22 degree ping hybrid. The course I joined has two par 3s that play 212 to the middle from men's tees and I'm hoping this hybrid let's me play those holes a bit more consistent.

So, what are your goals? Get to 3? But how are you going to get there?

Yeah back under 5 and ill be happy but i hit it well enough to get to 3. Mostly mental for me....being better at breathing to slow myself down. Need to be more patient, aim for fat part of the green and don't force birdies.

Need to start actually practicing again and not just hitting balls. After warming up i start with 5-10 balls each for 9 (150), P (140), A (123) , 54 (110). Just do same number for each club.

Trying to hit all 5 shots within my acceptable range at targets on the driving range. Each shot with full practice routine. If I'm doing 5 shots each and I miss my 3rd shot you continue through all 5. Keep track of your numbers for each club and where your misses are as well...left/right and short/long.

That block of practice helps work on mental pre shot routine and helps add a bit of pressure for me.

Mental reps of standing behind the ball mentally seeing the shot, focusing on shot shape, height of the shot, what it's going to feel like, where it's going to land, and what it's going to do after it lands

I started playing golf at age 33 back in late 2020. I'm down to a 20.3 and my goal this year is break 90 3 times. My lowest score to date is 92.

I want to implement a real practice routine and maintain it on a consistent, scheduled basis. Would also like to morph my workouts to be more focused improving my "golf health."

Thinking I may get serious about it this year. Be great if I could find both in one coach or location. Also, get below, and stay below, 5 HCP.

Will do. Thanks for the rec.

Does he work on fitness also or just golf?

Online option for fitness is the Fit for Golf app. Inexpensive and if you're a self starter and can stay motivated it might be for you.

I have two.
1. Birdie 20 different holes at my club. We have 36 so it's a bit different/easier than the traditional birdie all 18 on a single course. My 2022 goal was to birdie 18 different holes and I came up one short

2. Get to a single digit handicap and stay there. I got down to a 10 last year but am back up to a 13 currently as the winter has been brutal on my scoring average.

Hes just golf but will probably have some pointers based on your swing

My goal is to try and hit the driving range more this year. Can probably count on my hand the number of times I actually hit balls before a round of golf last year and half those times were on a golf trip. Sick of the inconsistency when I get the chance to go out and play 9/18 holes. Had our first child in 2022 so that made my time very valuable but I live 5 min from my driving range so just need to make the effort during the week.

Want to shoot under par on 18 again.

That's a twofold goal because I shot under many times on 9 this year, and then just went home at the turn. I want to play well, and play full rounds more often.

Goal is to break 90 this year.

Goal last year was to break 100 and I did it three times, with my best being a 94.

Edit to add I also shot 100 on the dot 5 or 6 times, so it feels doable with how practice has been going lately.

My goals:

1. Lift weights 3 times per week.
2. Stretch
3. Incorporate drills to stay deep in downswing.
4. Believe I can go low.

Pretty simple goals. I believe if I do above, my index will drop.

Shoot under par for 18. Have done it for 9, just not the whole round. Also trying to increase swing speed without killing myself.

Played competitive golf most of my life. Walked away from the game about 10 years ago, haven't practiced and played maybe 20+/- times since. Have a co-worker who is scratch/+ and obsessed. He wants me to play US Four-ball and some other regional tournaments with him. He convinced me to reestablish my amateur status, which I have done.

My goal is to get out there and play a few tournaments without the pressure I once carried and see what happens. Mentally, it will be tough to be mediocre compared to the player I used to be, but I guess I get to learn to stretch that muscle this time around.

+ hcp is a stretch goal for the year.

These two goals should be achievable for me this year:
  • Hit +2 more GIR per 18 holes. Stretch goal = +3
  • Decrease my avg distance from the hole on chips from 11.75 feet to less than 10 feet. Stretch goal = less than 9 feet.
My GIR is currently only 17.5%, so just 2 more greens per round would get me to 5/18 for 27.7%.

-Start taking lessons
-Find time to practice at least a couple times a month, with goal of once a week
-Get to a 7 or better handicap... got down to an 8.5 in summer but basically a 12 now
-Get fit for irons & wedges, buy if the numbers are much better then what I have now

1) have as many Even par (or better) rounds as I do over par rounds
2) shoot PB 65 or better
3) gain 10mph in club head speed
4) qualify for TX Mid Am and Rudy's Cup
5) be there when my son breaks 90

EDIT: Jan 1: shot -2 (70), so I'm already ahead for the year

10mph clubhead speed for a scratch golfer seems like a lot, no?

I'm leaving at least 10 in the tank (according to https://fitforgolf.blog/)...so that goal is more about doing some golf related stretching, lifting, workouts.

I'm 50 now and being idle at home during COVID, and with a desk job for work my physical strength has taken a dive. I feel weak swinging. It looks slow and not powerful.

I still get pretty good distance - close to 270 carry at times but I have really low spin rate so I can run it out pretty well. I would say avg. drive 285. If I can just strengthen up a bit I think I could have really good numbers and that should translate into 1-2 strokes per round I hope. stroke avg last year was 72.7. Shaving off one stroke average is huge, and at this point for me pretty difficult, as are most things in golf.

I hope to Return to single digit handicap with no practice or working out by playing maybe * once a month until summertime.

Currently a 10.5ish but trending in the wrong direction.

Try to find a track man and see what ur attack angle is

I swing like 108-112 my buddy is consistently closer to 112. He hits up on it 5 degrees and I am like 1 or 2 degrees up and sometimes -1

I carry it 275 at most

He carries it 20 yards past me in the air

I'm in the middle of overhauling my swing. Been working with a coach steadily since October. Practicing 6-7 days a week right now on a Trackman (found a great place while I'm in Austin for the holidays). I want to break 80 for the first time and def my hcp down from 12-13 well into the single digits. I generally don't get to play many rounds in the course of a year, so these goals may be achievable just by getting out on the course more.
