Our group of 12 leaves tomorrow for Pinehurst and weather looks to be great! We are booked at the Carolina Hotel which recently finished it's renovations.

We will be on-prem Thurs-Sun and below is the schedule of events:

  • Thurs - #4 at 1pm (walking with caddie)
  • Dinner Thurs - Reservations at The Deuce to watch those finishing #2
  • Friday - The Cradle in the morning, walking #2 with caddie in the afternoon
  • Dinner Friday - Reservations at Carolina Dining Room
  • Saturday - Riding #9 in the morning and #7 in the afternoon
  • Dinner Saturday -- TBD, thinking Pinehurst Brewing Company
  • Sunday Morning - nothing on the schedule (yet)

For those that have been, any last minute suggestions? I did the best with the schedule of courses that they had to offer when we booked. I really wanted #8 but that wasn't open.

Here's to great golf, best of times and amazing memories!

If you have time, highly recommend Tobacco Road. Just a totally different beast

- Bummer that #8 is just finishing up its touch up. It was awesome!
- If you and your crew are bourbon drinkers, make sure you spend a few hours one evening at the North & South Bar at the Manor Inn.
- Granted it's the short course, but #3 is the one I wish we had played.
- Drum & Quill is a cool bar with decent eats in the Village. Can get crowded!
- #4 is still my favorite course I've ever played.
- Echo khaos on playing Tobacco Road if you can. Enjoy!

Tobacco Road or southern pines. Tobacco Road is insane and the redo at southern pines is really well done

Loved #3! Short course that didn't play short at all. Can't wait to play it again someday.

Mid Pines or Pine Needles also a great add if you need another round. Tobacco Road would also be my first choice just because of how unique it is.

wasn't a fan of mid pines at all for the cost. southern pines >>>>> mid pines or pine needles.

Tobacco Road, Mid Pines or Pine Needles (in that order) for any addition to your schedule. Trip sounds great as planned.

since everyone is overlooking southern pines here....here ya go: https://www.southernpinesgolfclub.com/

just played about 12 courses in the area a few months back. Southern Pines post restoration was up there with Tobacco Road and PH #4 for our group. They did a masterful job with the restoration and clearly have poured millions into it. The clubhouse and facilities are super basic, but the course is a monster. Our group is well traveled, very discerning on courses and this was our favorite behind PH 2/4 and Tobacco Road.

Or, you can go to mid pines and play a garbage way overrated course in town with staff that acts like it's Augusta. Up to you.

High stakes competition on Thistle Dhu.

Make additional tee times at the Cradle now. You can always cancel them later. It's a blast.

Currently live here in Pinehurst and I think you have a great itinerary. Just finished up going around the cradle multiple times with my 9 y.o. tonight. Beautiful time of the year to visit. Don't forget to spend some time on Thistle Dhu putting green…maybe before or after dinner Thursday? It is a fun scene.

I'm only here another year and then back to Texas…but as a serious golf addict, it's going to be a tough transition. There are many perfect Sat mornings here. The main thing this place spoils you on is the green speeds - you can't find many places in Texas that have greens this fast with undulation. On the non-golf side, I'm ready to be closer to Texans.

We are retired and I would love to live in Pinehurst. I remember seeing many retirees who work at the courses, which pays for some of their golf. I would love that life.
We need to be close to our aging mothers, right now.

you could spend an entire day going back and forth on The Cradle and Thistle Dhu playing. Play The Cradle barefoot.

Pinehurst is great trip. We went a few years ago on one of our annual guys golf trips.

Only suggestion to your itinerary I might consider if possible is playing the cradle late in the day.

I generally don't drink while i'm playing, but the cradle is meant to be take 0% serious. It has a little food trailer type bar out there in the middle that you pass by a few times, music is playing throughout the course. It's just a great way to end the day, at least for our group.

I'm sure you can't change your tee time for #2 now, but you may be able to play the cradle another day at the end of the day.

Have fun

I second this. Definitely want late day cradle action. We looped it 4 times and were barefoot and hammered by the end. I saw one guy so drunk in front of us that he fell into the sand trap face first passed out. It was hilarious

That is awesome. But yes it is definitely a party par 3 course.

One of the guys on our trip actually got an ace on the first hole! it was really great and started the party off right.

The starter made a big deal about it and ended up letting him keep the little Sunday bag they let you use

another tip... I personally thought you could just loop the Cradle no questions asked if you have a tee time. Turns out they're actually super terrible about it and don't guarantee you can loop it over and over like they seem to hint at with it being "unlimited play." It is in fact unlimited, as long as they have the ability to roll you back in.

So, for those who do play Cradle, just play dumb and go right back to the 1st tee box and work yourselves back in. That's what we eventually figured out after being the nice guys and waiting our turn after the 2nd and 3rd loop (and we waited a long while both times). The guys that go there regularly finally were like why are you guys waiting? Just go back in and play dumb if they ask you.

Also, a Mizzou grad and DFW guy who was a total ***** just paid off the starter and kept getting first dibs no questions asked. Props to him...he wasn't a ***** because of that, just a total braggart that kept talking about all his club memberships in Dallas and cars he drives, etc. Was all we could do to not tee off into him and his group.

are you playing 2 or 4? If not playing 2, at least walk over to the tee box after the last tee time and just stand there...it's very nostalgic and eery, in a good way

We played both. Our group favored #4 overwhelmingly. I actually really liked #9 as well, the bent grass was a nice relief from the bermuda greens on 2/4. By the time we got to #7 (our last round) the fatigue was kicking in and we had the music blaring and drinking was out of control so it was a blast in it's own right. I'm pretty sure I liked 7 as well.

nice, yeah we preferred #4 as well. I definitely preferred 4 personally because I destroyed my buddies in rare fashion and they're all mid single digit handicaps, so I don't have too many of those days. Was nice to see them cursing the sky for once. We didn't play 7 or 9, but did play 1, which was a nice relief after the crazy hard courses. I'd like to hit 8 when we go back as I've heard nothing but great things

Bumping this thread. My buddy and I just booked a trip right after the Tennessee game.

Playing #8 Sunday afternoon, 730pm reservation at 1895
Walking #2 Monday morning, off the box at The Cradle at 4pm, 730pm reservation at Carolina Room
First off the box on #4 Tuesday morning, 2pm at Tobacco Road, Dinner at Pinehurst Brewing

We are staying at The Manor Hotel.

Couple questions. We're on the package with the meal plan. I've read mostly positive reviews regarding food, and I'm not very picky. Is it a set menu, or do you just pick any app, entre, and desert?

The caddy FAQ asks for a single strap carry bag under 24 pounds. I can easily get my stand bag under the weight limit, but it's double strapped. I would assume this is pretty common but wanted to be prepared if I need to bring a different bag. I havent had any issues at other spots with a caddie double bagging with my current bag.

Any other suggestions? It's just the pair of us so we're pretty nimble.

Golf board favor request!

Is anyone here a member at Pinehurst? We would love to get one round in at 2, 4 or 8 but aren't staying on property. More than happy to buy someone a nice bottle of whiskey if they could get a foursome of guests a tee time. Not sure if thats even possible without playing with the member.

My group put together a quick trip down for this summer, but weren't able to get on at Pinehurst for our dates so we are doing Pine Needles, Mid Pines, and Southern Pines. We were going to do Tobacco Road but it is the day they re-open after aeration unfortunately.
