Thought it was worth a thread if you follow golf on twitter like I do. Dan pumped out a lot of great content for golf digest and I found myself consuming more of his content than any other golf writer this season. Other than his fanboy moment with Fitzpatrick at the US Open, he's pretty objective. Will be interesting to see how he mixes in with the foreplay guys who are the opposite of objective.

It's been a while since I've listened to them...does this mean that Lurch is gone? That would be a shame...having someone that refuses to put up with Frankie's bullsh*t is nice.

Also, I wonder if this helps or hurts Dan's career in terms of access to players or if he gets them into places they couldn't previously.

Yes Lurch is gone. If you go to his Instagram story, he tells why he's leaving.

Basically, Foreplay is cutting him out of the money and replacing him. He may be back sparingly but gotta imagine you don't take too kindly to being cut out, especially when Riggs is one of his best friends. Reading between the lines it sounds like lurch wasn't going to give up his day job at Axon and they had the opportunity to hire Dan so they took it. Sucks if you're Lurch as you probably lose all the sponsorships overnight that came with Barstool and this appears to happen pretty suddenly.

Part of the appeal of Barstool golf is they're regular guys. Not sure how having a professional writer will come across.

I don't know everything behind the scenes, but Lurch was only there part time and missed alot of podcasts. He didn't bring much to the pod outside being a golf fan and Riggs friend. They prob needed someone full time and was unable to do it, Dan Rappaport is a huge get for that group.

I wonder how good Rappaport is at golf... The 4 man scramble against the pro's is their best content and Lurch was their best player.

I've always enjoyed it when they've had him on the show. I think it will be good for both sides - he will bring some more objectivity and thoughtful insight to the product and he'll get to do more of the outside of legacy media stuff he wants to do. Is into blog was pretty good: https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3430507/why-im-leaving-golfs-big-j-journalism-for-barstool-sports

Lurch has been not around more than around as of late. So while it sucks for him, he probably got to stick around longer than he should have.

In April he tweeted that he was a +0.6. So if he's still anywhere close to that, they got better.

100% agree. He's super close with Fitzpatrick as well so you gotta imagine that can open up more doors to Tour players. Going to be really interesting to see how the fit goes.

Apparently on tomorrows podcast they discuss it in length so will be an interesting listen.

Lurch was always the best player but very little in terms of personality I felt like.

Don't listen to the pod, but personally feel like this is a move in the wrong direction for Foreplay. They have had a nice place in the game's Twittersphere as the guys who are just regular guys. Now, with the addition of Dan, they are moving into more of No Laying Up's territory and I'd reckon they'll get smoked in that realm.

My two cents.

I listen to several golf podcasts and get something different (but enjoyable) from all of them. Foreplay is great becase of the frat-bro, fan-boy, blue-collar vibe. It's not for everyone, but it cracks me up. Frankie is a hot mess, trent is a midwesst duffer and Riggs comes across as the street smart captain that somehow holds it all together with a slight degree of integrity. It's been a great formula in my opinion so hoping Rapp doesn't bring too much polish to it.

By contrast, I really like the NLU guys also, but for completely different reasons. It's muni vs country club. I really like both individually.

Ha...you beat me to it. My concern also.

Don't fix what isn't broken. I don't think a professional writer is the right move either. They're going away from what made them successful.

I too enjoy them both. Sometimes I get tired of them as well, but for different reasons. Riggs can just be flat out annoying to me sometimes so I have to tune out for a bit.

With NLU, sometimes there's one too many inside jokes for me. I also don't like how they attempt to portray their image as "professionals" in the space and want to be taken seriously yet their personal bias shows everyday. That's fine, I just get turned off at the air of superiority they give off; whereas its obvious the foreplay guys aren't trying to be taken too seriously and they are open about their friendships on TOUR

I think there's a whole other side of D Rap that he hasn't been able or allowed to express in his prior roles. I think he has some of that everyman/fanboy/frat boy in him. It's still definitely a change for ForePlay but I don't think it's going to be super disruptive, especially on the podcast and video side of things. He can still do his thing through the blog, which he did today with the LIV updates.

Yeah, Soley and Tron can definitely get a little too golf-ritious at times, but they have some good insight and content. I liked them better a few years ago before they started taking themselved maybe a bit too serious. I mainly tune into them for the major previews and recaps because they do know their stuff when it comes to the players and course layouts etc. But for day-to-day golf talk and general entertainment on my commute, Fore Play is fun listen.
