I just graduated last December and will be moving to Fort Worth in may and trying to get a feel for what golf is around. I grew up in north Austin playing public courses whenever I could start driving and then just played the campus course in college. I'm a 6 handicap and the only options I have heard of are Mira Vista, Diamond Oaks, or the public course membership. Would love to hear y'all's thoughts.

Fort Worth has a lot of great public course options. All depends on where in Fort Worth you are and how far you're willing to drive. Hawks Creek, Waterchase, Texas Star, Rangers Golf Club, Rockwood are some that come to mind. Lived in Fort Worth a couple of years ago and loved the options I had!

Yea FW has some great options. Way better than the houston options I have now... not mentioned above but If you head west then Canyon West and Sugar Tree are great options. Tierra Verde in Arlington is a good one as well. We played Hawks Creek the most

Fort Worth has some of the best public golf in the south. Rockwood, Hawks Creek, Fossil Creek, Pecan Valley, and more. Miss it since I moved away September 2019.

A lot have been mentioned but if you are on the West/South side of town it's pretty easy to get to Hidden Creek (Burleson), Squaw Valley, Cleburne, Lake Arlington, and Waterchase. It's the best public golf scene in the state IMO. There's so much variety and it ranges from very affordable to higher end courses.

The ones I mentioned are exceptions, but a funny quirk is that nearly every course is along the Trinity River running from West of town all the way into Dallas. It feels like no matter where I play in town I'm hitting a shot over (or along) the Trinity.

One I have not seen posted is Cross Timbers in Azle. That is a fun track. Like everyone said lots of great options in Fort Worth.

If you're looking at the country club scene and don't want to spend $65K+ on initiation, take a look at Ridglea Country Club. They've historically had great junior initiation deals (less than $7500, no additional $$ due upon full membership). There may be a waitlist right now....not sure. But the golf is great (two courses) and tons of younger members.

I've been told a ton of Colonial members are going to try and join Ridglea for a year why Colonial goes through renovation.

Thanks for all the input. Can't wait to get down there and check it out. I've heard the same thing about the public golf, just didn't know if it was worth the money to go the CC route.

Fort Worth resident here, Public: Pecan Valley, Rockwood, Hawks Creek are excellent. Grapevine Muni used to be great back in the day, not sure if it still is. I personally also love Whitestone in Benbrook as well as Sugar Tree and Squaw Valley in Lipan and Glen Rose. Private: Ridglea is an outstanding value for the price, I am a member and happy to discuss with you. Mira Vista also has a ridiculously cheap young professional joining fee and is really good golf as well.

The new Rockwood is an outstanding value. I also really like the Rangers course and to me Hawks Creek is somewhat of a hidden gem.

Many are going to play Rockwood. Trying to move entire games over there.

Love ridglea but to me there isn't a big enough gap between it and rockwood to justify the huge cost of initiation and dues for just one year. That said - a few have memberships at both in order to play on Monday.

Not sure how that is possible. Ridglea is on a waitlist right now and I don't see them voting to expand golfing membership for one year.

Squaw Creek is a great track. 20 mins from West Fort Worth.
