Does anyone know of any courses coming down the pipe in that area. It's a traffic jam daily at every course around here now. COVID keeps on packing more and more golf courses

Dfw the same.

Westridge has always been slow, but it's brutal right now. Rainy 40 degree days are still waiting on every shot. It's wild. Bring a book even for twilight nines

Welcome to LA/OC golf 30 years ago!

You can thank Gavin Newsome for all those CA golfers!

I would imagine the Sun City courses going back to private has a little impact on this. But courses every where are getting slammed.

Lol, range looks like the traffic in downtown Austin

I've got a good range that's not packed, love it

Golf courses are crazy

Yikes. I just moved into Cat Hallow so Avery is 4 mins away. Trying to get the feel of the courses around here.

I lived in Pinehurst, NC for a few years while stationed at Fort Bragg so I'm a little spoiled.

Drive to Waco and play Bear Ridge.

You are welcome.

It took 4:45 mins waited every shot at Teravista on Wednesday with a 10:15 tee time

Getting into the country Bastrop, Llano, San Saba and Blanco all have playable courses with less traffic. You spend the time in the car rather than waiting

Wait let me get this straight? y'all are shocked that Saturday rounds with decent weather and during prime time 8:30-11am are busy as *****

Tell Avery Ranch your STACKED and you get more range access during peak times

Yea 4:45 is slow but that's not too bad at all. Certainly not slow enough to hurt your scores if you were a foursome.

Try teeing off at 3:30, and barely getting in 9 at Twin Creeks CC, Avery, Tera, Star, and Crystal

It's the reason I'm not at Twin Creeks. Paying to wait just as much as any other course

Looking for a CC in G-Town, which one is the best w/ best rates??? Asking for a friend

Lived in Gtown the past 25 years. Sub 5 handicap until age has started to deteriorate my game
Here you go:
Georgetown CC - current member
Least expensive - 330 per mo.
Short, target golf with really good Saturday games
In the San Gabriel river bottom, so the river is in play on 9 holes
Cimarron Hills - member for over 10 years
most expensive - 600 per mo.
Nicklaus Signature course
great championship track but poorly managed for the money
Berry Creek
mid-priced - not sure, but around 450 per mo.
funky layout that is usually in pretty good shape
subdivision course that I just don't really care for
Close by public courses in order of value
Delaware Springs in Burnet
Legends in Kingsland
Mill Creek in Salado
Avery, Star Ranch, Teravista are good, but overcrowded and that's not enjoyable to me
Sun City is now completely private
Legacy Hills is the best of the 3, followed by Cowan Creek

Hope this helps

How much do you think the price has gone up now at these places. Also, which has the best practice facilities
Ag4life80

Those are the current monthly dues to the best of my knowledge
GCC's biggest shortcoming is practice facilities, decent chip and putt, 40 yard driving net
Cimarron and Berry are pretty similar with full driving ranges, ok putting greens, and sub par bunker areas
both have small chipping and bunker practice greens
The best practice facility in town, hands down, is White Wing in Sun City
Driving range, large putting green, 2 separate full size green complexes for chipping and bunker practice
I love Twin Creeks, btw. My window sales guy is a member and I play there 4-5 times a year, always during the week. Really, it's my favorite course in Austin.
Everything in Sun City is 55 and older
Forest Creek is meh, to me. Not a fan of the layout. I have heard the newly redone greens are sweet.

Berry Creek is one of the most frustrating golf courses I have ever played. I always started off really well and would just fall off of a cliff somewhere in the round. I probably played it 50 times and I bet I had 150 birdies and 100 double bogeys. I could never put 18 together there, or even just nine.

Its a course I feel like I should shoot even on but for some reason I always struggle just to break 80.

I did have one of my best club throws of my long and storied career there. Counting backwards I think it is 14, a short par 4 with a creek that you can clear with a good tee shot. Its an easy hole, either 3iron-9iron or driver-sw. Also probably the furthest hole from the clubhouse back in the woods where the homes have iron fences.

Anyway I three putted from about 8 feet for the umpteenth time that day and was just blowing the round. I threw my putter helicopter style as far as I could. It made it all the way thru the trees and hit the iron fence on a line going about 80mh and snapped in half. I later had the shaft replaced but never hit a competitive putt with it again. I now use it as a log poker for my fireplace.

my god it brings me great joy when i am in a group or playing behind someone that just throws their clubs and breaks them... haha

Twin Creeks is the best we were members 275, now around 500, if retired it's the best, by far, range and all that but the course is maintained on par to a forest creek

You would have loved me that day.

I actually don't do it very often. I am like that pit bull that never bit anyone until he destroyed someones face. It's a complete shock.

What was your playing partners response after you threw your putter? That's always a tough spot for someone on what to say…

Considering we were playing for money they were pretty pleased when it broke.

However I am pretty sure I did not have another 3-putt with my sand wedge.

Berry Creek is just so ****ing boring. Stereotypical 90s subdivision golf course.

GCC is a lot of fun. Old school short track with small greens and fun doglegs.

Haven't played either in 20 years though.

GCC is no championship course. But at 64, I'm not up for that.
It's condition is a 3, on a 1-5 scale. But's it's a lot of fun, with a great late morning Saturday game that attracts 16 - 25 low handicap players . Best of all, no net scoring. Add up the low 3 balls in the group at a dollar a ball a hole. The biggest problem with Cimarron is that those guys are used to pencil whipping to win. I hate that, so I'm happy at GCC. This past year, I've played Boot Ranch a couple of times, Miramont a couple of times, Pine Forest, Houston CC, Twin Creeks multiple times, and others. So, I get my 'big' course rounds in.

Was a member at cimarron and liked the track.

Now I just play Crystal falls and usually play in 4 hrs. Don't love the course.

Out of town traditions membership as well. Played in less than 3hrs a few weeks ago.

Is GCC taking new members? How is the pace of play?
Ag4life80

The 11;30 group that I play in and was referencing plays in under 4 hours. You go inside and wait to settle the bets with the other groups and I'm out the door before 4
Membership currently sits at 471, and we're looking to get to 500
We overseeded the fairways this year, which is great, because I hate thin, wet, dormant lies in the fairway.

Why'd you leave Cimarton? I heard it's crazy crowded

Last weekend I drove my cart up to green on a 260 yard par four and chewed out some 50 year old ****er for attempting the same 15 foot putt five times while two separate groups waited at the box. Putt, pick-up, walk back, line up, putt, pick-up, walk back, line-up, putt….

More golfers isn't the problem. Asshat dip**** golfers are the problem.

This was 7+ yrs ago - at the time there was no one on the course ever. Had young kids at the time so just didn't play enough to justify the membership but enjoyed the club

Traditions is ~300 month for out of town. Full member, so it's a decent deal.

When I'm in Texas, I live around the corner from Greyrock GC out in Circle C. in the west part of Austin. A bit pricy for a public course, but the quality actually went up when the city bought the course. However, it has become very hard to get on there in the mornings. The members (they still have them) get priority times, and by the time the sheet is opened to non-members, there's just about nothing left.

Legends in Kingsland has been mentioned above, and is easily one of the best deals for the money in the area, and always easy to get onto.

Falconhead in Bee Cave is an ok course, but somewhat overpriced. Maybe that's why it's easier to get on there than at Greyrock?

San Saba, mentioned above, was my home course growing up. Haven't played there in a decade, but it's a fun round. No sand traps - they had to remove them long ago because they couldn't afford the upkeep. The old 9 is short and very tight, with the river coming into play a couple of times and pecan trees just about suffocating the place. I'm sure it's still very affordable and easy to get on.

If you have land and money, but want to make more

A lighted driving range between rr and gtown would be great. Abilene had a lighted par 3 course, when I was in college out there, that was a blast
