I didn't want to get lost in the TexAgs tour thread, but I was looking into doing the pro version of the Grint.

Before I do, what are the benefits of it? I'm still looking into what it actually does with the handicaps, because right now they "Don't have the ability to sell more handicaps in my area."

I use the free version all the time. I don't have an official handicap but I'm about to start.

I can't answer Grint questions because I don't use it (I will only for the texags tour), but if you're wanting to get a handicap, I'd suggest joining TGA and do the online club (Medalist). You'll get a GHIN and be good to go. $39 a year.

What's the benefit of going through them vs going through my local course for $25?

Nothing. If you're a member somewhere, I'd do it through the club if they offer it.

Get an official HCP through your club and link it to the grint (free version).

To answer your question...

The Grint pro version provides a great deal of stat tracking, based on the scoring and shot data you enter for each round. I've been a pro member for several years, and I find the golf analytics very helpful to evaluating my game.

Simple stats like putts, greens and fairways in regulation, but also more details like shot dispersion for each club, scoring by hole length and hole par, etc. That's the real reason to use pro.. do you want to keep and evaluate stats.

If you only want a handicap... Then certainly find the cheapest place to get that.

The additional stats are nice to have, plus the Pro membership gets you unlimited shot tracking and unlimited score/stats history. A Pro membership isn't necessary to use the Grint Apple Watch app, which is superb. I rarely pull my phone out during a round. The watch app is very legible, and the best I've found for yardages and scorekeeping.
