Considering making the move to a full brimmed hat. Never been a huge fan always been a baseball cap kinda guy but I think I need better sun protection.

Looking for something as big as it has to be but no bigger.

Preferably something that doesn't look too ridiculous.


Do I have any options besides going full Greg Norman?

I have one made by Ping. The brim is stout, which is a must in my opinion. I've had it for years and it has held up well and maintained its shape.

ETA- the chinstrap is removable and it has a cinch strap in back. They come in S/M and M/L sizes. I think my head is around 7 1/8 and the S/M is a great fit.

because of melanoma I've been forced to the sun hat club. I have an "old norse" by imperial which is very good. brim doesnt whip in the wind and it is nice and light.

I used to also wear the bucket hat from nike which is good as well. The newer models are lighter and better than the original.

main thing with these type of hats is getting one with a stiff brim. The floppy ones suck.

I have some hats from Coolibar that I like. They have several different styles. Sheltahat also makes a nice looking hat that I'd like to check out. It has varying brim widths.

Get you a Sunbody palm leaf hat

My only problem has ever been with those style of hats is that they're awful in windy conditions

My only comment is to make sure the brim is stiff. I have an Aggie one for tailgating and football gamedays that is great but the brim is floppy and it is annoying with the wind on the links.

Agree on the stiff brim. Highly recommend shelta for this exact reason. It's still flexible enough that you can make it look fairly flat if you want to.

I have been thinking about this for a while too. So last week I decided to get the wide rimmed titleist Aussie hat. I just got it, it is so big I feel ridiculous. Don't know if I can show up in this thing.

I hear ya, man. I don't know how I'm going to handle it but I think I've gotta try. I had some skin cancer removed off my back and my dermatologist gave me some warnings. She basically said getting these things removed off your body isn't that big of a deal, but if you get one on your face it can be bad news. So she said "get some color on your body all you want but don't let your face get sun if you can help it." The spot they removed was about the diameter of a pencil eraser and I've got a pretty gnarly 2" scar to show for it. So getting one on my ear or something would be a bad deal.

I'm just predisposed to it genetically so I need to be extra careful. Feel like I need to give the hat thing a try. I always wear a baseball cap but I'm worried about my ears and neck.

I actually prefer the Norman look to a chin-strapped bucket hat. It's a golf course, not a Nicaraguan jungle.

Would excessive sunscreen application be sufficient?
