Black Hawk member here. Escalante is pretty much universally hated by the membership. Things have gotten better this year since they fired the GM and the head pro and replaced them with a guy who actually knows golf and sees that they're running a golf course and not a restaurant. The problem with Escalante is the same problem with most corporately owned golf courses: they're cheap. It's taken almost 3 years to renovate the bunkers (which were a total loss after Harvey), because Escalante was only willing to spend $20k/month on the renovation, which doesn't go very far. With the hurricane damage the bunker renovation is now going to all be covered by insurance, so they're claiming the entire golf course should have new bunkers in 60-90 days, but pretty much nobody believes that because they've lied over and over again about the timeline on the bunkers.
The clubhouse and pro shop all sustained major damage from the hurricane because Escalante wouldn't replace the roof that's been needing to be replaced for about 3 yrs now, so they had roof major roof leaks that resulted in water in the walls of basically every building on the property. Because of that the clubhouse/locker room/etc are all closed until further notice. It may end up being a good thing because they're going to get insurance money to do much needed renovations to the clubhouse that Escalante was probably never going to allocate the money for, but we'll see.
Other than that, the golf courses are phenomenal. Shadow Hawk sustained a fair amount of hurricane damage, but Black Hawk is in phenomenal shape right now (other than the bunkers). I joined for the golf and couldn't care less about the locker room, gym, clubhouse, dining, etc, and it's hard to beat the golf course. The members are awesome as well.
