Anybody got any experience playing in the Sedona area?

I might get a chance to squeeze in a round tomorrow afternoon and I have been looking at Oakcreek Country Club and Sedona Golf Resort. Both have really good review online...

Taking a shot in the dark to see if anyone has any thoughts or advice.

Thanks!

Let us know if the transcendental meditation in Sedona helps your golf game.

I think an energy vortex may be the only type of hazard that I've yet to hit it into. Figured I'd try to scratch that one off the list...

Played Sedona Resort last week. One of the most beautiful courses I've ever played. I would highly recommend it.

Seemed to be a relatively easy course. Considering I hadn't played a round in 12 years until then and nearly broke 100 my first time out.

Didn't play either but walked through both facilities and they looked nice. There is another course, Seven Canyons, I believe, that is supposed to be phenomenal.

Report...

I called out to Seven Canyons... Private unless you are staying at a particular resort in Sedona (Enchanting something?) or if you are member at a club. In that case the lady in the shop said they reicprocate.

Ended up at Oak Creek. $38 on golfnow.

Really well conditioned. Pretty simple course and always had houses on one side (never both). Nothing special golf-wise as it was very flat down in the valley. There were several really cool looks with the red rocks right behind a couple of the greens.

Hacked it around early and got lucky to shoot 41 with a few nice up and downs. Got it together a little bit on the back for a 37. 78

Not a bad little course and plenty good for the $ on golfnow.

Bumping this... anyone played Seven Canyons or the Sedona Golf Resort in the more recent times? Will be out there for 5 nights in a few weeks as well as flagstaff. I'm about to book the hotel and debating if it's worth the obscene premium to stay at enchantment just to have access to Seven Canyons. My goal is to play twice in Sedona and pull off another round in Flagstaff. This is going to cost me some extra spa visits for the wife, but can be done.

We went back to the area last year (Wife's great grandma lives in Prescott)...

I played Sedona Golf Resort and it was definitely a step up from Oak Creek. Nothing wrong with Oak Creek, just more an old school country club/retirement community little track, with a few holes backing up to the Red Rocks as a back-drop.

Sedona GR definitely has better vistas/terrain than Oak Creek. You get some LONG looks down the valley from a few of the tee boxes on the back 9 which is really cool. I'd definitely pay the premium (although I don't think it's THAT much more than Oak Creek).

The course itself (SGR) isn't incredible or anything. The condition was good, not great. Again, nothing WRONG with it, just not incredible.

I have no experience with 7 Canyons, but from what I gather it's probably pretty spectacular. Just how ridiculous is rate at Enchantment?

It's about a $200-250 night premium over some other nice resort/places to stay. I'm trying to justify the extra cost to stay there and have access to seven canyons vs playing elsewhere. That extra hotel cost and green fee would exceed some of the US most expensive courses lol unless the resort is that much better which appears to be marginally better from online research.

Well I booked one round at Seven Canyons and one round at Sedona Golf Resort. I'll report back

Played Sedona Golf Resort yesterday and tee off at Seven Canyons in 2 hrs. Overall SGR was very nice and easily worth an $80+ green fee. Played fairly short and the greens held everything as they were super soft. Guy I was paired with had just retired from Honeywell Aerospace division and was part of the original team that designed all the self landing tech for Boeing and Airbus so he had some cool stories

Pic heavy warning! Absolute blast to play. At tee off it was about 70* and got to about 88* when I finished. Never broke a sweat with humidity at 5%, but the wind was brutal. Red flag warning for the area. Shot an 81 after starting off +5 thru 3. Outside of the one par 3 with an 80ft drop there wasn't any drastic elevation changes. The course had quite a bit of blind shots and I found myself on the wrong side or poor angle several times with longer shots into the green unknowingly. Even without the drastic elevation changes there was rarely a level lie on the entire course. Felt like the ball was always above or below your feet. Bluegrass fairways were very soft and you didn't get much roll out, but they were great to hit from. Bent greens were a little inconsistent on speed, but looked good and held shots. Pro told me they were rolling an 11, felt like anywhere from 8-12. My putting did me no favors so who knows. Overall it was a great outing and I would play there again no questions asked

Fantastic view from the driving range

First hole Par 5 all up hill

310yrd Par 4. Was all carry If you were stick hunting. I hit a solid shot, but I got a little lucky and my tee shot hit the mound left side just short of green and took a big kick. Had no idea how close it was until we got up there.

Here's a shot looking back at the hole with my ball

This was a 188yrd par 3 playing dead into the wind. Pin placement was brutal

I think this may have been the best looking hole overall on the course. Par 4 with a deceptive shot back up the the hole as this was a bigger valley than it looks in photos. Green is back there on a slight dogleg to left. Course had a lot of false fronts.

Par 3 with the big elevation drop

Thanks! Great photos. Was it worth the extra $ for accommodations to get access to it?

Definitely looks like a step up from SGR from a layout standpoint... but how big of a step up are we talkin'?
