When I used to play a lot and flirted with scratch handicap, I used to use Mizuno T-zoid Sure irons. That was about a decade and half ago. Then I went to Mizuno MP-33, Callaway irons, on and on and ended up with Taylor Made R7 TP that I used for the past 6 years or so.
Granted, my bag is heavily loaded with hybrids today, all the way up to 7. So my iron set really consisted of 8 and 9 irons. With 4 wedges.
Recently I felt the need to find a 7 iron. Well, I looked for a month on eBay but couldn't find a TM R7 TP 7 iron.
On a whim, I bought a whole set of Mizuno T-zoid Sures for $90. Goodness gracious these are easy to hit, long, and smooth (Sensicore insert).
So I started to look for a Gap Wedge..and found this brand new never hit, 16 year old GW still plastic wrapped for $19 on eBay.
Other than perimeter weighing, inserts to dampen vibration, and exaggerated loft changes, are today's irons that much better than Ping Eye IIs.. and/or post Wilson Staff blade era perimeter weighted irons?
