Haven't read this ESPN article yet, but this Sports Illustrated article a few weeks ago was really good too.

If Wright Thompson writes it, anything is going to be pretty good.

Just read it. Some interesting things I suppose, but for the most part it confirmed everything I thought of Tiger. Not sure it was worth the time.

Very interesting. Hadn't heard about his fascination with the SEALS before. And don't remember the stories of his father's weakness for women who weren't his wife. Fruit doesn't fall too far from the tree I guess.

Tiger is so down on himself he showed up at Sage Valley today and tried to play in a junior tournament.

A lot of this stuff was already in Haney's book. Wright Thompson just re-packaged it and made it sound more sympathetic towards Tiger.

That was a hell of a read. I had no idea about all the SEAL stuff. I hope the guy can come back and play some more good golf...he is good for the game when he's playing well.

Trying to frame him as a victim? An introvert like Ted Williams? Sure...

Things aren't always black and white in real life. Humans are too complex to be narrowed down to just "good" or "bad."

It's possible for flawed people to be sympathetic figures. It's possible for a human to be both responsible for their circumstances and, at the same time, a victim of their circumstances.

Tiger's story is one of both triumph AND tragedy. He's neither a perpetrator or a victim. Like most all of us, he's both.

The fact that such a successful person, who seems to be so hard working and so focused can be so flawed like the rest of us is what makes his story so fascinating.

Haney highlighted the SEALs fascination in The Big Miss as well. But this piece is a good addendum.
