I'm getting fitted for new irons. Over the last couple years I'm coming to terms with a few realities of life. Those being that I've turned 50, I have psoriatic arthritis, and I have cartilage/nerve issues in my right elbow.

It doesn't take much to leave my elbow aching and tender. At least I have no acute sharp pain. Thinking about some of these new generation graphite iron shafts that are making their way on to the PGA tour. UST Recoil, Aerotech Steelfiber, Aldila RIP, etc. all get positive reviews. I'll see what the numbers say when I do the fitting but has anybody got any real course experience with them?

Any input would be appreciated.

I got fitted for a set of Mizuno irons a few years back. Made the mistake of using steel shafts at demo day, then when I got fitted the club fitter recommended a graphite shaft that I actually never hit. I went with is recommendation and was really disappointed when I played with the clubs. Distance / trajectory were all fine - issue was I really lost sensation of ball leaving club face - irons had a dead feeling with the graphite shafts.

Make sure you actually try these shafts at a range as opposed to a simulator and you are happy with the results there.

Good luck.

What shafts did you get? I've read a whole lot of reviews that talk about how the Recoils and steel fibers, etc., have vastly improved "feel" over earlier generation graphite shafts, but I'm looking for additional input.

The Mizuno's I didn't like because of that "dead feel" were MP32's with SteelFiber i95 shafts, regular flex.Still have them, if you want to drive to Chicago you're more than welcome to hit them

Definately get fitted. I recently got fitted for Titleist. Landed on the AP2's but really went through the range of shafts. The S300's have been traditionally heavier than what I've played. Dynamic Gold has a new shaft XP95 which is a lighter shaft with very close specs to the S300's. My deal with shafts is the heavier they get my tennis elbow begins to act up as well.
