I think they look like Tour Exotics......not a fan

As for loft, not sure why people care what lofts are as long as you have a set which is gapped properly.

i don't care about specific lofts within a set, its just the misleading marketing by the club manufacturers. you go to golfsmith and hit three sets of irons. if you hit the 6iron in all three sets, most consumers are going to assume they're all lofted about the same, which is typically the case. that's no longer the case with this new iron and at least some of those consumers will buy the taylor mades because "they're longer" than the other two.

now, ultimately it's on the consumer to do a little homework, but i do think taylor made is taking advantage of the fact that most consumers don't take the time to make sure they're doing an apples-to-apples comparison.

i'm not saying there's anything wrong with that...in fact, that's part of taylor made's job. and if it gets to be an issue, then all the other companies will adjust their lofts too and pretty soon nobody will carry anything longer than a 7iron, but have 6-7 different "wedges"

The hard part is most sets go through PW, then the gap to your other wedges can be wide and challenging to shop for.

I wonder if we ever drop the iron numbers and just go to the loft like we have (somewhat) with wedges.

Taylormade is notorious for the bull**** about longer irons claims. When I worked in the industry I'd laugh at hackers who would walk into our store clamoring that they were destroying their 5 iron over 200 yards when their ping 5 iron only went 185-190. They quickly shut up when I simply showed them the loft chart

TaylorMade, IMO, started all this with the lower lofts, longer shafts in irons......etc.

I'd like to see manufacturers stamp them with an iron # and a loft. It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.

I played Tommy Armour 845's for about a decade, and while they had the traditional # on the sole of the club, they had the loft stamped into a corner of the face of the club (below). Those new Hogans would have been wise to do similar.

There's still the matter of shaft length which also impacts distance, but at least there would be more clarity around loft to help a player identify and manage gaps.

When TM came out with Burner 2.0s a few years ago, both Reg and Stiff flex stock were 85 grams. They tapered the shafts at center vs tip, only difference.

The miz 850s appear to be much more compact
