Project X vs KBS?

I've been playing Cleveland TA7 gunmetal irons the last 2 years with the stock "uniflex" shafts. I've adapted pretty well, but I have to play a pretty big draw because the shafts aren't stiff enough.

I played Project X 6.0s on Mizunos for a few years & really liked them. However, I know a lot of people who prefer the KBS & say it has a lot more feel. I'm a digger & tend to drive my irons but still spin them pretty good. I could stand to have a shaft that promotes a higher ball flight, as I know how to keep it under the wind when necessary. I don't know what my iron swing speed is, but my driver is 125+.... hit my 7i 190.

Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention that I found some new PX 6.5s for $70 (4-9i) on eBay.

You know my thoughts. But I think you are going to have a tough time getting a good opinion with how hard you hit a golf ball.

I think you are going to get more pop with the project X. Since when are you a feel guy anyway?

7i - 190??

That's a bomb. I would say yes, you need a stiffer shaft. I play KBS tour c-tapers x-flex in my irons and love them. I hit my 6i about 185-190. I hit irons too high, so the c-tapers help promote a lower/less spin ball flight. The standard KBS tours do the opposite. I would recommend checking them out. They make great shafts.

I guarantee he can make that 7 iron go a lot farther than that.

Not doubting it...just saying that's a big 7i.

He sprays the damn thing all over the golf course though. Also I own him in the Denver Amateur.

my recommendation-go hit them all if you can. everyone has their own opinion on golf shaft. Me personally I hated the feel and ballflight of the DG, and KBS is the same guy who designed Proj-X so just depends if you want a stepped or rifle. I would choose anything over DG in my opinion, I hit it high and the DG actually I hit higher than the Proj-X. If the ones on ebay are tour flighted this will bring your ballflight down with short irons and up a little wit long irons to get a consistant flight. But again, I would recommend hitting them all if you have a chance.

Sorry, not buying this. 7i "a lot further" than 190???

proud is an accomplished long drive person, if I remember correctly.

Some things you read here are not believable. Some are.

DB could have been talking about me hitting a 7i at altitude because we live in Denver. To clarify, 190 is my sea level 7i distance. I always have an extra 10-15 yards if I really need it, but I don't think I could hit 7i much more than 200.

I take it back. Very impressive. I am pretty long with driver, but a p00s w/ my irons by comparison so part of my doubt was probably actually a little bit of jealousy.

If I remeber correctly, you think I should go KBS. I remember hitting a couple shots with your irons on 15 at Meadow Hills & really liking the dispersion. As for feel, there isn't a mechanical thought in my head with respect to golf. It's all feel for me. Sure, I want to hurt the golf ball off the tee. But I love spinning wedges.

Proud, did you win the Remax long drive competition about a decade ago? An aggie that I know that graduated around 02 won it and I'm trying to figure out if that's you.

jj,

I really appreciate the info you provided. I'm hoping to find some time soon to address this. The PX 6.5 deal on eBay seemed like a really good deal that I could pull the trigger on. I tend to over-think things.... I wanted to reshaft my irons this time last year but did not want to make the "not-perfect" decision.

El Mero Guero,

No, I am not Clayton Burger. I met him a couple times; nice guy & he crushed it.

Have KBS on my Ping irons and like them a lot...after testing ball flight, it was the most consistent across the board as compared to the PX and DG that I looked at...good luck.

Are the counterfeited PX's any good?

I agree with jj, although I would remove S300. I played DG X100 forever and the equation is the same. I play KBS Tour now.

Feel: KBS > DG S300 > PX

I've never liked DG, so I'm not considering them.
