Bought some used/like-new Mizuno MP-59's not too long ago and love them. Hitting them better than my old game-improvement irons (which goes against everything I have ever heard) and the feel is also much better as long as I don't hit it thin. My only concern is that I am launching the ball very high. I am sure I am losing some distance as a result, especially with any kind of wind. And it was comical hitting my 6 iron to a 9 iron distance in yesterday's wind on a few holes.

Maybe I come down too steep on the ball in general...I hit my 10.5 degree driver pretty high too as well as my 3 wood/iron.

Any recommendations on a good person in Houston area to see about potentially tweaking a few things to lower the ball flight? Also, what would the general process entail and roughly how much would I be looking at? I have only heard of getting fit up front when buying a set of irons, so really not even sure this would be a viable option, may just have to deal with it. TIA.

I would think it would be the same price for the fitting as a normal fitting. If they do anything they're probably going to change shafts, and they may give you a credit if you purchase through them. What shafts do you currently have?

Currently have DG S300 shafts. After speaking with a buddy of mine who is a more seasoned vet than me, I am thinking I am probably getting a little ahead of myself and overthinkng things. Will prob just play them as is through the summer (less wind/thinner air) and possibly consider a fitting a ways down the road if I still have an issue with it. Please disregard...

Guero.......irons shafts should be fitted just like a driver shaft IMO.

I was a high iron hitter too. Switched to project x rifle flighted shafts at correct length for my height and it totally changed my ball flight .

2 things:
-most "game improvement" irons have very strong lofts since there is a ton if weight in the bottom so that alone will make it go farther
-since it's more of blade/forged club they are far less forgiving. Hence the shorter distance if slightly mis-hit...
Take them to a local PGA certified fitter and have them check lofts/lies. Forged clubs need this 2-3 times a year

Mero,

MP-59s are close to traditional iron lofts. game improvement irons can be as much as 4 degrees higher per club number. that's how they keep making them go farther. iron companies should really be stamping lofts on irons but then it would be too easy for people to see they are just screwing with them.

I thought lower lofts = more distance? Hence, part of the reason the pros can hit a 7 iron 210 yards?

I go to Advantage Fore Golf in Houston (I-10 and HWY 6 on west side) when i want to get clubs fitted or adjusted.

the reason they hit it farther is they hit the center of the club face...everytime. go look at the lofts of the s55 vs the G25 for PING, you sill see the difference.
