Went out to play this morning and shot 40 on the front. One double, three bogeys, four pars and a birdie. I only intended on playing nine holes, but since I had a shot to put up a new low score I kept on going.

Made a complete mess of the 10th hole and put up a triple. But I didn't let it get me down. Got my head right with a short par 3 and a short par 5 coming up. Hit a 9 iron to about 8 feet and made my birdie putt. Bad second shot on the par 5 but found a way to grind out a par. So I was sitting at +6 through 12 holes. Best score ever is an 83 (+11).

On 13 I lipped out a par putt. +7.

14 is a really short par 4. Ended up in a bunker 50 yards short of the green. Left it in the bunker. Ended up with a double. +9.

15 is a straightforward par 5. Missed the green, chipped on, two putt. +10.

16 is another short par 4. Stuck behind a tree off the tee, double bogey. +12.

17 is my favorite hole. Long par 3 with water that isn't really in play. Not unless you duff your tee shot or yank it way left. I yanked it WAAAAAAAYYY left. Double. +14.

18 I drove into a fairway bunker. Chunked it and ended up in the next fairway bunker. Chunked that one, too. Just short of the green with my fourth shot. Managed to get up and down to save double. +16.

First 12 holes in +6. Last 6 holes in +10.

That's golf, I guess.

40-49 for me yesterday. Not too bad I guess considering it was only my 3rd round after shoulder surgery, but it still hurts to play so well on the front and then spew oil all over the back.

Keep your head up, we've all been there. I'm a 10 handicap. Playing at Pebble Creek last summer, I shot 35/-1 on the front ... my low 9 ever. Then backed it up with a smooth 45 on the back.

44-57 on Friday...caught a case of the shanks on 9, limped into the turn with a double and continued the downward spiral from there

Here's a tale. Front nine 43 back nine 33 last Sat. That's just not normal.

Golf is frustrating. My wife took the kid to a birthday party on Saturday so I walked on the nearby course to get in a quick nine. Never played the course before. This is how my round went:

1 - Par
2 - Par
3 - Par
4 - Bogey
5 - Par
6 - Bogey
7 - Triple (hit drive OB - it was playable, but OB so I didn't play it)
8 - Bogey
9 - Double (hit drive OB again - it was playable, but OB so I didn't play it)

I was striking the ball well and knocking it close, but being unfamiliar with the layout and a little loose with the fade cost me big on 7 and 9.

The course is dead and hard as a rock, but it was less than 4 minutes from the house and cost me $10 to walk 9. Maybe I'll go out in search of those lost strokes after work one day this week.

I feel your pain OP. While I still ended up finishing with my best round, oh what could have been. My previous best finish was 7 over. On this day I went out and shot 2 under on the front. I instantly got tense as we made the turn, and I proceeded to stumble into the finish with a double and bogey to shoot 5 over. It's amazing what nerves can do to you even when you are playing for nothing but pride.

My back nine last weekend

4 4 3 4 10 3 4 3 4 for a 39.

That is 6 pars, two birdies, and a 10.

Shot 79. Came in 8th.

Did it again this weekend but backwards. Shot 37-48 Saturday. Then at least I evened it out on Sunday with a 39-41.

Thought of this thread after today's round. After starting bogey-bogey, I reeled off 8 straight pars... Not normal behavior for a 9.5 handicap. So after being two over thru 10, finished with an 83. Three doubles over the final 8 holes hurts a scorecard.

First time hitting the course in a couple of months other than a few practice putting and chipping sessions. Shot a 40 on the front then imploded to a 48 on the back with 5 doubles... The only positive I could come up with is I never hit driver and all but one putt landed within three feet off the hole like the ultimate practice round teaches.

once in high school we played a one day tournament at Tapatio Springs in Boerne. Terrible weather, cold, windy. I shot a 39 on the front nine. Made the turn and for some reason they were posting scores after nine holes. A quick glance at the board and I realized I was tied for the lead. 39 wasn't that great but the weather was so bad I was tied. Visions of victory, trophy presentation, newspaper, etc immediately get into my head. I then go out and shoot a 50 on the back nine for a cool 89.

Who knows what happens if I don't see that score and just keep playing. I think a 78 won the thing.
