I think I posted a thread a while back about TPC SA and how I quit after 6-7 holes due to mosquitos and poor course conditions. Well, I got an email from one of the guys over at the pro shop after he received my less than great response from the last time I played.

Well, I played that make up round this morning and I've come to the conclusion that I do not like this course at all (oaks). 90% of the holes look exactly the same (straight and mesquite left and right with deep bunkers on every damn hole). Just doesn't do it for me at all...

I have an opportunity to play the Palmer course a La Cantera and wanted to see what y'all thought of it and how it compares to TPC SA...any info would be great...gracias...

Can't compare, since I've never played the TPC. I have played the Palmer course at La Camtera twice and it's one of the toughest I've played in Texas. Lots of blind shots, lots of elevation change, and you MUST keep it in the fairway on most holes, or it's a pitch out - if you can find it.

That said, it is a fun course with some really good holes. I hear there are some huge rattlers out there, although we never encountered any in the three days we were there a few summers back.

When did you play? I played right before the Spurs started the finals and all the rain flooded the course and when we got on they had crews rebuilding the bunkers.

But it was so green and the greens soft as a baby bottoms every shot just plugged and never had any mosquitoes problem either then again we had 10-15 mile gust winds.

I love that course and then again golfnow has great deals only paid 60 bucks.

Sorry for your bad experience.

Oops just saw the headline I played the resort course not TPC SA

Well, if you hate TPC for being boring, then you won't have that trouble with Palmer. It's a little too tricked up in my opinion, but some enjoy that and you may too. I enjoy the Resort course more than Palmer.

Palmer isn't boring at all. It is just nothing but elevation changes and blind shots. I would only play there for free.

TPC Oaks is very hard and isn't forgiving.

Well if you think the TPC course is straight and boring, God forbid you step on Bryan muni, you will certainly die of boredom on that course.

This sounds more like somebody is used to shooting 80s and got their a** handed to them on a TPC course for a 105 and decided to complain about it. Just my two cents.

I got bit by an ant on hole 16 at TPC Sawgrass. I walked off the course right then and there. I'll never go back.

This is my thought as well. I can't imagine anyone finding that course boring. The greens alone are more entertaining than most courses I've played.

If you don't like TPC SA, I wouldn't visit the Palmer course either.

Your standards for a golf course are either insanely high or simply out-of-whack.

You have every right to dislike TPC SA - Oaks, but the fact is that it's a fantastic course.

If you're wanting an easier and/or more scenic course, I'd recommend The Resort Course. It's significantly more tame than the Palmer Course.

Goodluck wherever you land.

Agree, i wouldn't bother with the Palmer if you have complained this much about the Oaks course. I think the Palmer is the worst layout in the area.

I enjoyed the Oaks course BTW, thought it was great.

I've played em both several times.

Conditions at both courses, every time I've played them, we're excellent. Oaks is tough. Palmer is tough.

If you don't like TPC - don't go back and play it anymore. The quarry is right down the road. I don't really like Traditions - but I don't feel I need to disparage it. Personal preferences are just that - personal preferences.

Spot on Jeffers you said what I wanted to say when I first saw this. In addition I think the Pro at TPC should be given a huge atta boy for reaching out after the complaint. Most courses would just good riddance. Makes me want to go play TPC just to meet the Pro and congratulate him on good customer service

Guys, you all are reading way too much into this. I stated in my first post that the staff was great, very friendly and the guy I was in contact with did a great job staying in touch with me. Walked into the clubhouse and it was all taken care of. My gripe is solely with the course itself. Every damn hole (par 4 and 5) was straight with nothing left or right. Bunkers were deep and a ***** to get out of.

Although I didn't play up to par, I didn't get my ass handed to me. I usually shoot in the low 80's (82-85) and shot a 91 from the tips with 20-25 mph winds and tapped in for a par on 17-18, which i thought wasn't bad for the first time seeing the holes.

Sounds like the Palmer course won't be in the cards...

I guess the ladies tees could be considered the tip of the front of the course.

Atasca, I just want to give you a disclaimer: I *love* the Palmer Course. It's one of my favorites in the area.

I get why some people don't, but I really think it's a fair course and a fair test of your game. You will have to hit shots to make par and especially to score. If your not entirely confident in your ball striking, I totally understand how it wouldn't be a fun course.

I'm a 9/10 at my local CC, and I would never even consider the tips at that kind of course.

I hate the Palmer.

Oaks is designed for pros by pros. Not sure what you're wanting to see left and right. If it's a roller coast, the Resort is the place for you.

That said, I wouldn't pay to play Oaks (I play once a year for free).

You might enjoy the Canyons course though. Pete Dye designed. Definitely not tricked up, but different from the Oaks.

I would've liked to see more thought into the design of the layout. It reminds me a little of the Traditions course (central Texas rolling hills golf) but without dog legs left or right...and as far as length goes, I didn't think it played real long. I'd say its comparable to Traditions from the tips, be easier than Redstone where you have long carries from the tips to just reach the fairway...I've heard good things about the canyon course, so I may have to check that one out. Good thing is I have a buddy that gets on at La Cantera for free and gave me an envite next time I'm in SA...sounds tough, but I heard its a beauty.
