has there ever been a study done on the % of players that win tournaments when they go out early on Thursday/Late on Friday vs. Late Thursday/Early Friday? not counting the weather factor, do you think that this set up gives an unfair advantage to a particular tee time set up? Looking at it, I think it would be pretty equal because late Friday tee times could say they have a disadvantage heading into Saturday rounds (provided they make the cut), but late Thursday tee times may claim a disadvantage because they have to turn right around Friday morning and tee it up right after Thursday, whereas an early Thursday tee time allows for either more practice or rest by finishing early Thursday and teeing up late Friday. maybe I'm just looking into it too much.

I would think it's even too. I've always wondered how exactly the choose who tees off with who and when.

TV ratings?
Competition level?

I believe the sponsor has input as well so they can maximize exposure if Tiger or other big names are playing.

I would think it's TV ratings. Other than a handful of Tournaments, Tiger and Phil have typically teed off at opposite times. It's definitely not random.

I would bet that you could tie Thurs/Fri tee times to who makes the cut but I would be the final two rounds cancel any of the early effect out.

how'd the surgery go broseph?

Pretty good. Not too much pain so far and hopped up on the good stuff. Meniscus was not as damaged as they thought which was really good to hear. Doc says I'll be ice dancing in no time at all.

Every tournament creates their Thurs/Fri times to their own liking.

Read "The Majors" by John Feinstein and you'll get some good insight into how a few tournaments approached their pairings.

Like said above, each tournament sets their own groupings. Depending upon your status on Tour, you have preferred and non preferred tee times.

The TV coverage during the week always ends at 5 PM central (or so), so the name groups will tee off about 12:00 PM Thursday and then another name group will tell off 12:00 PM Friday.
